(Almost) All Cricut Cartridges at Michaels 50% Off

Let me say this another way…all Cricut cartridges at Michaels are only $40, through August 2, 2008! Yep, you heard me right! Here’s the deets, as copy/pasted from the e-mail I just got:

“Expand the realm of possibilities for your scrapbooking and paper crafting endeavors!

All Cricut® Cartridges —
Only $40 Each

Create one-of-a-kind layouts and cards, and even help your children with their school projects. Cricut cartridges are designed to work exclusively with any Cricut personal electronic cutter, and now you can save 50%. This special price is a limited-time offer, so make sure you get to Michaels by August 2, 2008.

To give you an even bigger advantage, if you buy any three Cricut cartridges at Michaels, receive a free DesignStudioTM from Cricut. The Cricut DesignStudioTM software lets you bring creativity to a new and exciting level.”

Wow, so for $120 you can get 3 cartridges and DesignStudio. Sounds like a ravin’ deal. Who’s gonna’ take them up on it? I may get a cartridge or two, but I’m pretty happy with the ones I have. I got a few when they went on sale for $40 at Walmart awhile back, so I have 5 or 6 now. How about you?

Oh, and HERE is the link for the coupon for 20% off your entire regularly priced purchase through 8-2-08. Excludes Cricut products but not Martha Stewart. Me, I never find anything to spend those on that seems worth it – do you?

ETA 7/28/08: Look at Kristi’s comment below. I took her suggestion and changed the title of this post, LOL!

New Basic Grey for CHA 2008 Chicago

Please bear with me…I know the posts have been lagging lately. I’ve finally been in the mood to write again, but now work is slammin’…a mixed blessing :) While you patiently wait for me to get my act together, please enjoy the NEW BASIC GREY {click on Products; in the drop down, click on everything that says *New*}. I have to say I’m loving all of it. Not as much as I did in the days of Lucky and Baby Boy and Lollipop Shoppe, etc. But, yes, loving BG again. Like any long-term relationship, you love them, you hate them, you love them, you go lukewarm…You love them again. Like I said in THIS POST on AMR, I have to put Basic Grey on my Hot Tamale Train!! Whoo hoo!

What do you think…are you in a love or hate mode with BG with this new release?

HSN Scrapbooking and a Mega 3 Birds Special

Hey, whadyaknow? I’m back. Well, I’ll try to be back and see how it goes. If you read THIS post, you know I lost my buddy Dallas a week ago Friday. I have to say, times like this make ya understand clinical depression. I’ve been lethargic and spacey and severely sad. I’ve slept a lot to try and avoid the sadness. I’ve been “flat” and weepy and angry and you name it. It’s one thing to lose a pet you’ve loved and snuggled for 11 years, but to lose him the way we did, it’s just too much to deal with sometimes. I appreciate SO much the well wishes I’ve received here on the blog, and from my sistas on CKMB and AMR. I’ve found out what a strength “all these ladies I don’t even know” truly are. So, time to dip a toe back in the water, and write a quick post. About what else? Scrapbook shopping…

It’s time for some HSN Scrapbooking {and forgive me for not giving you the proper “heads up”}. Here’s the sked:

Tuesday 7-8-08
12am, 1am, 5am, 8am, 10am, 11am, 2pm, 5pm, 6pm, and 9pm
*These times are EST; adjust for your time zone

The 2peas girls are talking about the TODAY’s SPECIAL HERE – too much of a good thing, perhaps? CKMB’ers are chatting about HSN too…HERE. And HERE the question is, “Is she preggers, or just wearing an unfortunate blouse?”

Here’s the Today’s Special in all it’s glory:

3 Birds Exscrapaganza All-in-One Craft Kit Item: 319-918

Contents:
Storage box
48 sheets of printed pattern paper 12×12

330 chipboard shapes (many with glitter)
343 chipboard die-cuts (many with glitter)
24 buttons
24 jumbo brads
51 glittered felt die-cut

What do you think of that megalopolis of a scrapbook kit?

The Cycle of Life: Purge…Then SPEND!

Just thought I’d share a Challenge I posted over on the All Moments Remembered MESSAGE BOARD. If you’re not already a member over there, you should come join us…I’m dangling a little RAK and maybe a SPECIAL RAK in front of you. Here, scrapper, scrapper….come to mama! Seriously though, we have a blast over there. Everyone is so nice, so supportive, so helpful and not a snarky tone ever to be heard. It’s refreshing and I know you would like it.

{Note: For all the AMR pimping I do, you’d think I was a paid sponsor or something. But really, truly I’m not. I just believe in sharing good things with you…that’s my only motivation. I pinky swear…}

Okay, here’s a short version of the challenge….to see the whole thing, go HERE.

Let’s get rid of all the scrap stuff that, while still in excellent shape, we’ll never use. It’s just taking up space and clogging our creativity. Don’t you feel the Urge to Purge?!?

Here’s the challenge: Sell your unwanted scrapbooking, stamping and/or papercrafting supplies. You can use any means you like, whether to friends and family, having your own garage sale, or listing it somewhere like Craigslist or E-bay.

Report back in this thread what you sold. Then use some or all of that cash to GO SHOPPING at the AMR STORE!! Once I verify with Stacey that you indeed spent at least $25 of your profits at AMR, I’ll send you a little RAK for playing.

To earn a RAK:

1. You must spend at least $25 retail at AMR (that’s the price BEFORE tax and shipping).
2. You have until FRIDAY, 8-8-08 to spend.
3. There will be a SPECIAL RAK for the person who spends the largest dollar amount (retail) with Stacey!!!

Thanks for playing I can’t wait to hear about what you sell, and what you get to buy at All Moments Remembered!!

Then I posted some tips for selling your scrap stuff on CRAIGSLIST. My bud Jingle (Jennifer aka Queen of Chat) posted some wonderful E-BAY tips. Hope you come join our challenge!

Making Memories Magazine: July/August 2008

Just got my copy in the mail and it’s noticeably “skinny.” Wow, only 90 pages including both covers. I’m sure you’ve noticed how thin CK has been in recent months and Scrapbooks Etc, although thicker than the others if i remember right, is still not as fat as it used to be. I don’t imagine these scrap mags will be in business much longer at this rate. How can they maintain subscribers with that many pages; how can they maintain profits with that few ads? We’ll be sad to see them go, but it will be {at least partly} our own fault, I’m afraid…I know many of us now get our scrap-fill (page ideas, articles, etc.) from the internet, but it just won’t be the same without magazines. You can’t lie on a lounger, the couch or in bed with your computer (well, we laptop-ers can but yuck, uncomfortable and impractical). And the pics in a magazine are much more fun and easy to look at than those on a screen. I for one will truly miss the scrapbook magazines when they’re gone and, at only 90 pages this issue, Memory Makers appears to be sliding on out…

What are your thoughts about this issue, or scrapbooking magazines in general, these days?

Sketches for 4×6 Photos

Via a POST on 2peas, I found this wonderful PLACE called “4×6 Photo Sketch Blog.” The blog writer, Amy Alvis, wrote a 2peas post showing people how to convert the sketches in Becky Fleck’s PAGE MAPS BOOK to accomodate 4×6 photos. Apparently, some scrappers have stated they’re passing on the book because she doesn’t include enough sketches using 4×6 photos.

Okay, as a side note, I’ll say that I passed on the book when I saw it in the store the other day AND had my hot little 40% coupon in my hand…because as I flipped through, I didn’t see enough MULTI-photo pages. I gotta’ tell ya, I’m tired of all the 1-photo and 2-photo “page ideas.” I’m sorry, but MOST of (yes, I’m generalizing here, not saying it’s true for the entire world) the scrappers in Scrapper World don’t scrap that way. MOST of us like to scrap the majority of our pics and not leave them sitting in boxes. I mean, c’mon, now we’ve even got digital, and digital SLR’s for gosh sake. Can you say, “Dear Lord, I just took 4,200 pictures at my daughter’s soccer game?” {While wine tasting last weekend – oh yes, dahling, I lurvvvve to wine taste – my digital-SLR scrapper friend confessed that she has 58,000 photos on her computer…and she’s only had that camera for 2 years}. So, you can’t tell me that MOST of us are really scrapping 1 or 2 photos at a time. I mean, don’t even TRY because I just won’t stinkin’ believe you, okay? There might be a skewed vision of how we all scrap, because MOST designer’s pages contain 1 or 2 photos…but they are scrapping because they are showcasing their artistry or they are showcasing “product.” Which is fine and dandy because I’m the first to say, “Show me some product!” However…oh, crap, I should’ve just done a whole separate post about single-photo vs. multi-photo scrapping, shouldn’t I of?? {<- hee, luv my bad grammar, dontcha?}

But back to my point, I didn’t buy the Page Maps book because I wanted to see more multi-photo layouts, and many must be passing because they want to see 4×6 photo layouts. And now I’m back to the real point of this post…check out Amy’s sketch blog, K? It’s a very, very, supremely wicked blog. She just started it but I hope to send her some traffic and encourage her to keep posting those great sketches. For instance, check out this coolio sketch and the layout that goes with it:

***** SKETCH AND LAYOUT BY AMY ALVIS *****

See, she got all those photos on there, some great journaling, and she rocked those embellishments. You CAN have it all…

Wonderful Scrapbook Rooms

The girls on AMR have been posting links to some great eye candy lately…awesome scrapbook studios that we can all drool over and be inspired by. I also love to look at them for storage and decorating ideas. Here’s a list of some we’ve looked at recently:

WYSCRAPPER/DEBBIE picked JENNY F’s ROOM and a here’s a Sneak Peek…

CHRISPEA/CHRIS led us to GEMM’s ROOM and here’s a peek…

KELLIANNIE/KELLI has been especially good at finding these cool rooms. She showed us THIS one posted by “christmasnotebook” (?) on Flickr with all those white cabinets. This is my kinda dream room, with all that closed storage so it looks neat all the time and you can do cool things like decorate for Christmas!

Kelli also shared Masonpaige’s room HERE; get a peek below of all the pink and green goodness:

They got me going, so I went and found these on 2PEAS (just Search All Forums for Scrapbook Rooms and you’ll find plenty). THIS ONE belongs to scrappindiva55 and lookie here at one pic:

And I love THIS ROOM belonging to peainthepod – just one view below…

News from Top Line Creations (TLC)

These days, if you click on the TLC WEBSITE, this is the message ya get:

+++++++++++++++++++++++
(Quoted directly from the TLC website; just saving you from linking over there..)

“The management and staff of Top Line Creations (“TLC”) wish to thank Consultants worldwide for their support and association during the last four years. It has been determined that inasmuch as (1) TLC has always been a multi-level, direct sales organization; (2) the name TLC and Top Line Creations, LC are associated with the same; and (3) the multi-level, direct sales structure has proven to be unsuccessful in marketing the TLC product line, TLC is no longer a viable enterprise and will be dissolved effective immediately.

Fayette Terlouw and Annette Ward (the “Ettes”) previously employed by TLC, will continue to share their talents as designers for a new organization — Breezy Design, LC (“Breezy”).

Breezy has negotiated with TLC’s secured creditors to acquire all TLC inventory, outstanding orders, equipment, copyrights, etc. Breezy will process and ship all outstanding TLC orders, and will honor the current subscriptions and referral group memberships previously established by TLC. Breezy assumes no liability for any unused TLC Credits or unused TLC Event Vouchers. Breezy will, however, honor all unused Member’s Choice and/or Consultant Choice Coupons.

Breezy welcomes all TLC Members and TLC customers to join them in this new enterprise.

www.BreezyDesign.com
+++++++++++++++++++++++

I’m not really familiar with the TLC situation, except that they were a multi-level seller of scrapbook supplies, with many consultants who are now pretty disappointed and, if I were them, angry? I don’t know how much warning they got about all of this, although I have heard people referencing it online for some time. Maybe a TLC-er can leave a Comment here and educate us all (PLEEZ!).

I guess it’s good that they have somewhere to transfer their business energies to (aka Breezy Design), assuming these two ladies, “The Ettes,” are people they feel confident in dealing with. I’m not making any judgments here, as again, I know NOTHING of this company of the situation. I just came across the TLC website and thought I’d pass along this industry news. I also take personal interest because I’m a consultant for a scrapbook company, Memory Works, which is NOT multi-level and I think that’s one of the reasons MW is so successful. I’m sure the bad economy is hurting Memory Works somewhat right now, but I don’t see any signs of them failing. To the contrary, they seem to be gearing things up slowly (which is wise) and I’ve heard they/we are taking on many former TLC consultants. Memory Works is very different than TLC but I hope, in spite of (or because of) that, they have wild success!

Now, you computer types, I need your help. When you click on BreezyDesign.com, on the bottom right of the home page is a free Desktop Layout download. Please walk this computer dork through saving that to my Mac desktop and putting photos in it.

Change to My Blog

Lately I’ve had several readers point out to me that they weren’t able to read my blog because the bar along the right hand side was blocking some of the text. In some cases, it was blocking the photos too. Well, we can’t have that! I tried every single format offered by WordPress and this is the only one that seemed to solve the problem.

I like that it makes the blog entries the center of attention, and kind of minimizes everything along the right. But I hope that doesn’t make it too small for anyone to read. Then again, I’m on a laptop so all you PC’ers are probably fine, right? I’m not crazy about the black bar under the title and the way it crams all the categories in there, but whatever. I didn’t like the black-n-white color scheme at first, thought it was too Plain Jane. But it’s growing on me and I feel better about it since some of the AMR girls said they like it.

Do you like the new format? Leave me any “goods” or “bads” in Comments please. Peace out…

Basic Grey “Euphoria”

The whole Girly Girl look isn’t my main style; however, I can’t help but love this new release from Basic Grey. It’s called Euphoric and, like Kelly Goree says on her blog, this paper was MADE for this little swimsuit!

    LAYOUT by KELLY GOREE

Isn’t that paper pretty? I love the colors, so fresh and Spring-y. Please check out Kelly’s BLOG and the Basic Grey SITE for a lot more info about Euphoria, along with some other new BG products on the way. According to Kelli, your stores can start placing orders 5/12 and it will ship in June. This is one I’ll be on the lookout for! One great source I know all you “BG and Bazzill” girls like me depend on is EMBELLISH IT! and they are taking pre-orders. You can also see each of the individual papers on their site so click on over there.

Here are pics of my favorite items, but there are many more to see on Kelli’s blog or at Embellish It!:

Basic Grey Euphoria Collection Pack (retail $19.99)

Basic Grey Euphoria Olio Rub On Book (retail $7)

{So, so, so, SO glad they got some new floral images…was going to puke if I saw that stupid bizarro flower again…)

Basic Grey Euphoria Chip Sticker ABC (retail $6.99)

Sorry, I’m not diggin these colored rub-ons with the white background (below). Maybe if I saw them on a page, but for now, a “thumbs down” on those…

Basic Grey Euphoria Effloresce Rub Ons (2-tone Magenta/White and Green/White) (retail $3.50)

Here’s another beautiful page made with this new line by Basic Grey:

Scrapper’s are talking about Euphoria HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE. What do you think…are you Euphoric for this new line??

Another Scrapbook Scandal: Jennifer Shabro

Well,it’s obvious I’ve been majorly slacking in my 2peas Lurking Duties. This was all news to me, and I found it via Michelle’s BLOG. It’s not a magazine ensnared this time, but the Making Memories blog. The scoop is HERE, HERE, and HERE. Apparently, THIS is Jennifer’s blog but it wouldn’t allow me to enter (hmmm…shocking!). In searching her name, she seems to post comments to blogs using her real name. Anyway, sounds like MM said and did all the right things. I’m sorry this happened to them, as they are one of my favorite companies. I hope everything works out for the best. As for Ms. Shabro, don’t even get me started…For you, dear readers, I will bite my tongue. And in return, I will ask that you Don’t Shoot the Messenger…I’m just sharing the 4-1-1, for shizzle…

Are we tired of the scandals yet, ladies? What are your thoughts?

By Design Scrapbooking Boutique

I love SCRAPSCENE, I love SCRAPSCENE! (Yeppers, two links for the price of one). I get their daily e-mail, and they always point me to the best scrap happenings. Today I found the most coolest LSS via ScrapScene…By Design Scrapbook Boutique. Mind you, it’s in Houston so it’s not like I can visit in person. But it’s a beautiful store just to look at, and I can see why it’s such a success.HERE is the write-up and review of the store posted on ScrapScene. I love the image of the shoppers with their noses up against the glass. HERE is the owner Tracy’s blog.

Here are some photos of the store, so you can see what I’m drooling over…

I love the name and the whole concept of the store, combining a fabulous looking designer showroom with scrapbooking. Because, as you know, design and scrapbooking overlap in so many ways. The pink, black and white color scheme is brilliant and yummy.

I wish I could click together the heels of my ruby slippers (um, yes, I DO wear them around the house, as a matter of fact!) and end up inside this fabulous store in Houston, Texas. C’mon readers, wherever YOU are, let’s all click our heels and meet up there!

Martha Stewart Border Punches at Michael’s

Everybody say HAYYYYYY-AYYYYYY, cuz I do believe we have another Scrapbook Item Frenzy on our hands!! Thanks to LORI RN (who doesn’t appear to have a blog I can linkya to…shame), I hear that there are these cute new border punches in the Martha Stewart section at Michaels. The photos were provided by Lori, and if you click on the heading of each one, it takes you to the Martha Stewart site. There are photos there too, but Lori’s are way better because you can actually see how the paper looks after you punch it. According to the Martha Stewart WEBSITE, each punch retails for $14.99. I don’t know about you, but I’ve got (3) of the Mike’s 50% coupons burning a hole in my wallet. Hrrrmmmm…(doing mental necessity vs. available cash calculations inside obsessed scrapper’s head)….$14.99 minus 50% off times 3 would be….PERFECT!

DOILY LACE EDGE PUNCH by Martha Stewart

SIMPLE SCALLOP EDGE PUNCH by Martha Stewart

EMBOSSED ZIGZAG CRAFT PUNCH by Martha Stewart

There are 5 punches altogether, so here are the other 2 from the Martha site, as Miss Lori does not have pics of the last 2…yet (something tells me she’ll be heading back to a certain craft store soon…).

FLOURISH EDGE PUNCH by Martha Stewart

CORNICE EDGE PUNCH by Martha Stewart

Another shout out to LORI RN for posting these punches, and taking those fab pictures of them, on both CKMB and 2PEAS. You are one wicked enabler, my dear (God luv ya!).

I have to say, Lori did a good shoppin’ job b/c I don’t like the last 2 punches anywhere near as much as the first 3. So what’s the verdict, ladies??? Will I be knocking you down in the aisle when I go to Mike’s, determined to grab those first 3 punches, get them to the register, slam down my 50%, and say BAM! like Emeril?!?! Or ya gonna pass on these punches?

Angel Babies: Scrapbooking the Loss of a Child

As always, the lovely ladies on the AMR MESSAGE BOARD provide me with such thought-provoking moments. My friend NICOLE posted THIS today, regarding a blogger friend of hers (also named Nicole) who recently suffered the loss of a pre-term child. Please go read this lady’s POST on Driving With the Brakes On blog, but I warn you it’s very detailed and you will be crying by the end of it.

Reading this true story of a family’s suffering at the loss a child reminded me of something I meant to do long ago. A very nice lady named Diana asked if I would review her product on my blog, and she sent me a free sample of it. Diana runs the company JustACloudAway.com, where she sells scrapbook kits for those who would like to memorialize their Angel Babies. So I pulled it from one of the many piles on my desk (LOL) – it was still there because I always MEANT to do the review, I promise Diana! So, better late than never, here it is, a review:

The kit I received is called “Classic Baby” Scrapbook Kit and it retails for $15; you can order it HERE. It includes (2) 12×12 sheets of very thick stock, with gorgeous photo-realistic backdrops where one could showcase their “Certificate of Love” and any other photos, memories, ultrasounds, or journaling. The photos are very soft, pretty, and “Heavenly,” with flowers, blue sky, clouds, and green hills. In the cover letter Diana sent with the kit, she says, “Because many parents do not have photographs of their children, each kit contains exclusive designs of angels, clouds, butterflies and Heaven to symbolize hope.” She also says they can be used for “a variety of creative crafts, including scrapbooking, journaling and creating keepsakes such as shadow boxes and framed pictures.” I agree, I think both of these sheets with the included embellishments would be lovely in 12×12 frames, or maybe in shadow boxes where the parent could include meaningful 3-D memorabilia like baby shoes, or a private letter to the child. What I like most about the kit is it’s not super-specific and can be used to the exact liking of the parent. The items are very nice quality.

I was most impressed when I went to the Just A Cloud Away WEBSITE. Diana has created a very welcoming and serene site that is full of information for grieving parents. Parents can purchase a Scrapbook Kit, a Memory Garden Tip Sheet, or a Remembrance Idea Sheet to help create their keepsake. Her LOVE TALK BLOG is updated frequently and has helpful posts for everyone, including “Grieving Parents-What Not to Say” and tips and photos for creating a memorial garden (I notice on the About page that Diana is a Professional Landscape Designer). Here she is working with the scrapbook kit:

The website has tons of information, resources and links for grieving parents and those dealing with infertility. Whether you have Angel Babies in your life, or know someone who does, I encourage you to check out the website….just click on the icon below.

Just a Cloud Away, Inc. provides Remembrance Kits, Memory Garden Tutorials, Healing Crafts and Sympathy Gifts/Ideas for bereaved families of pregnancy and infant loss.

Shopper’s Report: Michaels, Dollar Tree and Target

Our tax return arrived so it was my duty to stimulate the poor economy by shopping, right? First stop was Staples on my way to work. I have SO been wanting/needing an external hard drive so I can get my plethora of photos off my laptop. They take up so much space. I found the one with the largest memory — 1 TB! — and was happy to see the price. An older buried price tag showed $329, the newer tag said $289, then with a sale and rebate it was $229 (online right now it’s showing $253; yeah, I got a deal!). So I got it for $100 off! Sweet. I verified on the box that it will work with a Mac but if it doesn’t, they said I have some time to return it even if it’s opened. Isn’t it pretty?

maxtor

Not SBR, but I also had to get a fax machine for home, which I’d been putting off because I thought they cost a lot, and I already have a printer/scan/copier so I was wondering where in the HAY-ELL I was going to fit another machine on my desk. Well, I really needed one because the online faxing I’ve been using hasn’t been reliable and I need to get faxes for work so I bit the bullet. And found one at Staples, a tiny little cheap-o Brother fax machine for $60 … with a $40 rebate. So just a $20 expenditure..I can live with that.

After work, I went by Dollar Tree cuz it’s the time of year we need to buy new pool noodles. I also got 4 Garage Sale signs to advertise my Scrapbook Garage Sale on May 2/3. They had nothing new in the scrappy aisle except for some 12×12 papers that weren’t my taste. I check there once in a while because that’s where I got my whole stack of fake Thickers. Silly me, I gave more than half of my stack away as crop door prizes and now I find that I use them all the time myself, so I wish I had more! But, no, no Fake Thickers at DT this time :(

Next was Michaels even though I didn’t (GASP!) have a coupon this week. Did I miss the ad on Sunday, or was there no coupon issued? Bah! Anyway, I wanted to see if they had any of the most recent studio g acrylic stamps aka Mikes stamps. Don’t ask me what number this set is, because I’ve lost complete track, there are so many. But here’s a pic of the ones I found:

Sorry about the shadow (that’s me!) but my camera just died and I couldn’t retake like I wanted (oopsie)…

I also have no idea if I got the whole set. I need to find a listing of them again with photos of all the stamps. The stamps say www.hamptonart.com on the back so I’m going to try the website. If not, I’m sure someone has posted them to CKMB or 2peas.

ETA 4/19/08: I knew my CKMB ladies would come through! Thanks to KPax331/~Katie~, I see that I’m missing 4 of the stamps and they are from Series 11. HERE is the post she directed me to.

Not SBR again, but I found some very cool “How to Draw” books for kids that show step by step how to draw animals and monsters. A very cool gift for a very cool kid I know. And now when DH sees the Mike’s receipt, I can just say, “Oh, I went there for a birthday gift.” Mmm-hmmm…don’t try and pretend you don’t pull that one too!

Onward to Target so check out the scrapbook sec….er, um…for more birthday shopping. I did get some great deals on toys but that’s not what you want to hear about, I know! My Tarjay is notoriously behind the curve on getting new things so I wasn’t feeling hopeful. But they did finally put out some of the new Making Memories Noteworthy, 5th Avenue and Animal Crackers that everyone has been talking about. They had almost the entire 5th Avenue line this time, but I only got the Clear Tags and Shapes. I already have most of the line from ALL MOMENTS REMEMBERED online store; it was part of their monthly kit which you can sign up for HERE. Target also had some Disney Jolee’s I hadn’t seen before, so I got the castle one. I was happy to find a pack of MM Noteworthy. I already have many of their papers but I hadn’t seen the felt flowers, die cut shapes or flower stickers. It was $8…not a screamin good price but doable considering you get 2 of the shaped papers, and some embellies along with the regular 12×12 paper. One thing I noticed at my Target is the majority of kits they had that were newer lines were in 8×8. Wazzup with that noise? I know its cool to have once in a while, but don’t most of us still scrap the majority of the time in 12×12? I was bummed to see that. Finally, they had some of the POP CULTURE line from KI MEMORIES. I already have some random papers and the alpha, so I just got the Gel Candy epoxy stickers. They had a Pop Culture theme set but I added up the cost of each of the pieces (isn’t it sad that I know how much everything costs individually??), and it wasn’t a good deal. If I remember right, the pack cost $9.99 and the items individually would’ve been $9-10 anyway. There were a few papers I wouldn’t use so it wouldn’t be a bargain for me. Besides, I’m always disappointed when a big box like Target can’t offer a price that AT LEAST beats what I’d pay at the LSS for separate items. I mean, c’mon! I thought you guys had “buying power” and “bought in bulk” and would “save us money.” I thought that in exchange for you guys putting all of our LSS’s out of business and taking away our buying freedom, you were supposed to give us great prices on the FEW new items you do actually carry. Pony up, dudes…

Speaking of good deals, I did find some cute things in the Dollar Spot…a paper pack with soft pretty colors called Wedding. It includes printed, foiled and embossed papers, $1 for 8 sheets of 12×12 so not bad. And a line of embellies called Vacation that were really cute and bright and versatile, so I got the epoxy letters, epoxy stickers, and glitter tags.

Anyway, here’s a pic of my haul for the day…

Oh! What was that?!?! You’re asking if that’s a FISKARS THREADING WATER PUNCH in my swag photo?? Why, yes, that does seem to be what it is. I am apparently one of the lucky few to find one of these sizzlin hots at Target. The rumor is that each store gets one at a time, so when one sells, they order and wait for another. I was happy to take their “one” off their hands, as I have a friend who’s been craving one ever since she saw mine (I posted about it HERE). So I’m sorry, I know you want my punch, but please don’t send me chocolate or scrap supplies trying to bribe me into sending it your way…well, second thought…send the chocolate. I’ll think about it and get back to you…

May 2008 Creating Keepsakes Mag: Cool Deals!

Yep, for all the ups and downs and critiques of Creating Keepsakes magazine, it’s still my favorite and the one I most look forward to each month. This month held a special treat…upon opening to the first page, you’ll see an add for Marcella by K at Target. The ad shows off MbyK’s new line called “Lemon Drop.”

{I’m leaving a space here for a picture of the Lemon Drop line, which I can’t find online quite yet. If anyone sees this line anywhere, please direct me towards it. The pic in the ad makes it look very cool!}

And the best part is a Target coupon for $2 off a “Marcella by K scrapbook album.” It’s good through 7-10-08 but hop to shoppin’ now while you’re thinking about it! Besides, raise your hand if you think any of these cute Lemon Drop albums will even be left on the shelves by 7-10-08…yeah, I don’t think so either.

ETA 4/19/08: Went by my Tarjay lastnight and no sign of any Lemon Drop goodness. I will persist!

Since we’re talking coupons, also check out CK May 2008, page 31 for this from ADDICTED TO SCRAPBOOKING.COM: “Order now and receive a FREE GIFT of your choice, with any purchase of $25 or more. Enter promo code: SBAMPCK. Offer good through 5/20/08. Search ‘free gifts’ to choose yours!”

Check out page 34 for some free downloads for recipe card templates. Okay, well that’s as far as I got in my new issue of CK lastnight before falling asleep. If I find more goodies, I’ll be sure to share them with y’alls…Have a great super day!

Okay, after looking at the ad (very top of this entry) that I received in a ProvoCraft e-mail today, and then at the (10) cartridges I copied above from the ProvoCraft WEBSITE, I was confused. But thank the Cricut gods that I found this on the ProvoCraft BLOG, because now I got it all straight, and hope it helps you too!

QUOTED FROM THE PROVOCRAFT BLOG:

    “April 08, 2008
Cricut Solutions vs. Classic Cricut cartridges
Cricut Solutions cartridges are starting to appear in stores, and we’re thrilled that many of you are adding them to your Cricut collections! There have been some concerns about packaging, so we want to clarify the difference between Classic Cricut cartridges and Cricut Solutions cartridges:

    Classic Cricut Cartridges
    – type of cartridges you’re all familiar with
    – contain 100 designs and 6 creative features
    – latest additions include the Pooh and Friends and Pooh Font Set cartridges, and we will continue to create more must-have Classic Cricut cartridges
    – suggested retail price is $89.99 (or $99.99 for Disney cartridges)
    – come packaged in a storage box that includes the cartridge, keypad overlay, and handbook

    Cricut Solutions Cartridges
    – new style of Cricut cartridges
    – contain an average of 50 designs and 2 creative features (mostly Shadow and Blackout/Shadow Blackout)
    – themed cartridges that contain Cricut designs tailored to meet specific project needs
    – eight total: 6 shape cartridges (Baseball, Soccer, Wedding, Camp Out, Home Accents, and Indie Art) and 2 font cartridges (Stone Script and Street Sign).
    – suggested retail price is $49.99
    – come packaged in a plastic shell (blister packaging) that includes the cartridge, keypad overlay, and fold-out card

We are developing a storage system for the Cricut cartridges, including a great option for all 8 of the Cricut Solutions cartridges. Stay tuned!! [End of quote]”

I’m anxious to hear about this “storage system,” aren’t you? What are your Top 3 Faves of the new Cricut carts and tell us why? Here’s mine:

    1. Stone Script – The thin letters always make me nervous, but these look so cool, it’s worth going through some pain to get them on my page…

    2. Street Sign – Yep, I’m a sucker for fonts and this one looks very versatile. I think the simple block shape to the letters will really showcase any PP you cut them out with, and solid colors will be “bulky” enough to really have fun inking or edging them.

    3. It’s a close one between Home Accents and Indie Art, but I’m going with Home Accents. There are some very cute designs, and I can see myself using them for projects outside of scrapbooking.

    Okay, what’re your faves?

Paper, Scissors, Death: A Scrapbook Mystery

Sometimes in our little online world, you make the coolest friends (whom you’ve never really “met”), and they help you out in the coolest ways. My “friend” Nicole from the HUMOR ME blog (and a fellow CKMB’er and fellow AMR MB’er) hooked me up big time! Gosh, it’s a long story and I’d probably farkle it up anyway but long story short, Nicole gave my e-mail and blog info to the author of not one but TWO new scrapbooking novels. (PS: Nicole is quite the writer and is beginning to rub elbows with Big Time Writers. She’s been published on the Killer Hobbies Blog and was just asked back to write for them again). The author is JOANNA CAMPBELL SLAN who is associated with a fun hobby blog called KILLER HOBBIES. Okay, pause, rewind…first I need to say THIS BOOK IS NOT COMING OUT UNTIL FALL 2008 and will be published by MIDNIGHT INK. Anywaaaayyyyzzz…thanks to Nicole “introducing me” to Joanna, I am one of the lucky bloggers she has chosen to send an advance copy of her book!!! I’m so frickin excited! I don’t get it until September but that’s okay, I can wait. Then I’ll read the book, give you all a review on my blog, and hopefully even have the author herself “come by” around the time the book comes out. Okay, you have to understand, I love to read novels, I love to write, I LUH-HUH-HUV scrapbooking. What better stinkin’ thing could happen to me? Well, I will tell you…NOTHING! Ha!

So there are all kinds of cool things about this book, including that it’s part of a series and Joanna has already written Book #2, to be called “Designed for Death.” The e-mail I just got from Joanna is full of details but I’m not sure how much I can say yet, so I’ll share with you as I can. Maybe I’ll put out little teases all summer, LOL. For now, I’ll share this from Joanna: “…as of today, AMAZON was accepting pre-orders. Signed copies are available through Main Street Books of St. Charles (email msbstchas@sbcglobal.net).” So if you are as excited about this new novel as I am, you can pre-order it now (click HERE. (C’mon, it’s showing on pre-order as only $10.17 plus another 5% off at checkout), or even request a signed copy!

What do you think? Are you looking forward to Joanna’s books? Have you read any scrapbooking novels or mysteries before?
