Wow, Talk About a Scrapbooker’s DREAM JOB!

AMERICAN CRAFTS is hiring a SCRAPBOOKER/CRAFTER. Yep, you read that right. They’re going to pay someone $28-33K per year plus benefits to scrapbook!

Just think of all the pretty paper and rad embellishments you’d get PAID to play with! The American Crafts umbrella covers: AC (incl. Amy Tangerine, Shimelle, and Dear Lizzy), Pebbles, Crate Paper, Studio Calico, Imaginisce, Pink Paislee, Heidi Swapp, Bazzill, We R Memory Keepers and Project Life products.

Imagine, if you will, this future conversation:

Your boss: “Oh, hello there. Could I please pay you to make something scrappy from these gorgeous Solstice Puffy Stickers?

You: “Uh, sure. Well, I mean, how much are they?”
Your boss: “No, silly! We just give them to you – and lots of other products. And you make cool projects with them which we share with the world and you become a famous scrapper. It’s all free. Plus we pay you. Is that okay?”
You: . . . . . . . . “Am I being Punked?! Where are the cameras?? Ashtonnnnn!”

If I got this job, I would never want to leave work! The after-hours paper sniffing alone would cut into my family time. Then hubby would get mad because his dinner was late and the kids would fail school because I’d be too busy sniffing scrapbook paper to help with their homework. They’d get kicked off their sports teams for missing practices because “Mommy got home really late from work. Again.”

Yeah, so. Darn. Guess I won’t be applying for this amazing dream job. I’m not willing to sacrifice my family. Plus it’s in Utah which is not where I live. And they have snow there, right? I’m not sure even THIS job is worth dealing with snow. Said the California beach girl.

But I think YOU should apply. You know you want to! Just go HERE. Deadline is . . . well, I can’t find a deadline so get your bottom over there and apply before you miss out! It was posted 10-28-14 so hurry!

Now if they ever need a work-from-home, scrapbooking fanatic blogger, social media freak, SEO expert who would promote their goodies and talk about their scrapbooking products TWENTY FOUR SEVEN, well, then I’m their girl!

Hit me up, American Crafts. I’m here for you.

Scrapbook Deals and Steals: Free November Scrapinar & October Afternoon “Public Library”

Two quickies for ya’ today:

1. I haven’t pulled the trigger (yet?) but the deal today at CraftySteals.com is surely trying my resolve. Check this out:

Tons of October Afternoon “Public Library” for only $23. Aye yie yie . . . I want it SO bad! But I’m telling myself that I really don’t need the entire line, just several sheets of that gorgeous paper and an embellishment or two. Praying for strength, LOL.

2. Reminder that Lain’s Free Scrapinar for November is today, Monday 11-03-14 @ 10am Pacific, 1pm Eastern.

Just click here to see the details and sign up. Maybe we’ll bump into each other in the chat room :)

Hope I made your Monday a little brighter!

PS: If you’re reading this directly from my blog, sorry for the different look. I’m doing some remodeling as I have time between work and family. There will be other changes before I’m done so thank you for your patience.

Tuesday Morning: Basic Grey, Tim Holtz, 7 Gypsies, and More

I just heard from a scrappy friend in Southern Cal that her Tuesday Morning has a BUNCH of BASIC GREY! Lots of embellishments: brads, ephemera, toothpick flags, resins, stamp stickers, die cuts, journal pads, etc. Most are 99 cents. No paper though, boo! I haven’t bought much BG lately (most of my scrappy dough has been going to AMERICAN CRAFTS paper, storage items, and WRMK albums) – so now I have to make ANOTHER trip to Tuesday AM, darn! ;)

Sorry, I don’t have any photos of the Basic Grey to share but it reminded me that I never posted all these Tuesday Morning scrappy pics I took last month.

I have even MORE photos from Tuesday Morning from a more recent visit to their scrapbook section. I need to get them uploaded, then I’ll blog those too so stay tuned! Remember when I said that Tuesday Morning had a NEW CRAFTS BUYER? Well, I’d say she’s doing a great job, wouldn’t you?

Scrapbook Organization: Great Way to Store Kits and Collections

A couple of months ago, I found a great deal on these Cropper Hopper Sticker Envelopes.

DSCN5493

As you can see, they were normally $6.99 marked down to $1.50 so I did what any bargain-lovin’ scrapper would do: I bought them all! There were 10 packages so I got 30 Sticker Envelopes for $15 (instead of $70 at full price). WAHOO!!

They sat in my scraproom for a while because I wasn’t sure how I wanted to use them. I guess they’re intended to just store stickers, maybe by topic? But that ain’t how I roll, baby.

I thought about making up kits with them. You know, pull all the paper, stickers, alphas, embellishments, and photos for a single project. But in the end, I decided to use them for storing a whole collection.

In this case, I stored all the October Afternoon “Apple Cider” collection that I talked about HERE.

This is what it looks like from one side:

DSCN5494

And here is the other side:

DSCN5495

All of the 12×12 papers are in the large inside pocket. The stickers and embellishments fit so nicely in the outside pockets. I’ll put a label on that top tab. {For everything in my scrap space, I used an older version of this Brother P-touch Labeler – it’s perfect!}

I love that I can see the whole collection at a glance. I also love that these pockets fit inside my Cropper Hopper paper holders, which I sort by manufacturer. So of course this Sticker Envelope goes into the October Afternoon paper holder. I use an older version of these Cropper Hopper Paper Holders.

Like I said, I store most of my scrapbook stuff by manufacturer. For some lines, I just have paper but for others I have paper + embellishments. I’ll be going through my CH paper holders and transferring those full collections into these. It’ll be great to just grab a Sticker Envelope and get to work :)

I don’t belong to a scrapbook kit club anymore but if I did, I’d use these Sticker Envelopes to store new kits when they arrived. It would be helpful in “killing a kit” I would think. You could see each little piece and more likely use it. Then when most of the kit had been used, you could separate the items into your regular storage methods. “Oh no! The Sticker Envelope is empty! Whatever will I do?! Ah, time to buy a new kit!” Heh.

I got these Sticker Envelopes at Beverly’s Crafts. If you’re in California, you can check HERE to see if there’s a store near you. Maybe your store will have them, too. In mine, they weren’t in Scrapbooking but were in the big Clearance section.

They don’t seem to be available on Amazon that I could find, but I did see something similar: Advantus Cropper Hopper Paper Arranger 2-Pack

What do you think? How do you store your collections? Do you keep them together or separate them out into other categories? Would love to hear your method!

Scrapbook Haul: October Afternoon “Apple Cider” from ScrapbookSteals.com

As I mentioned HERE, I recently ordered the “Apple Cider” line from ScrapbookSteals.com. It arrived a bit ago; I’m just getting around to posting pics.

You know how sometimes with online shopping, you really love something on the screen so you order it. But then you receive it and it’s not as great as you thought it would be?

Well, that was NOT the case with October Afternoon’s “Apple Cider” line! Ha ha, I had you fooled there, didn’t I?

I mean, look at the extreme LOVELINESS below!

As packaged:

DSCN5444

That’s a lotta’ loot for only $18:

DSCN5445

Annnnddd . . . the most important part: the papers!

DSCN5447

DSCN5446

I have to admit, I spent a good deal of time fondling . . . ahem, petting . . . what I meant was PUTTING my new goodies away. Jeez. What did you think was going on in the hizzy!?! Something borderline illegal? Just because I made sure I was the only one home at the time. There is nothing suspicious about that at all, no sirree Bob! Just a regular ol’ night at Scrapbook Obsession’s place.

So anyway – this is a gorgeous line in person. It’s everything I love about October Afternoon – nice thick double-sided papers with unique designs that are so usable, fun embellishments, great colors, and nice sayings. AND PUFFY STICKERS.

I’m just not sure what more you could ask really.

I really look forward to scrapping my Autumn photos with this amazing scrapbook line. Now if it would just get out of the 100s here . . .

Hope you had a great week & enjoy your weekend!

Anna will also be offering her usual Christmas card kit which she talks about HERE. I’ve heard very good things about her past Christmas card kits – that they’re easy to put together but impressive, and you get a lot of completed cards from them.

I also see that LISA BEARNSON will be presenting . . . NEW PROJECT LIFE on the HSN Craft Day!! Okay, now I’ll be there fo’ sho! {Click on that linkee to enter a giveaway and to see a bunch of photos of the new PL kits}.

LOVE NOTES kit by Project Life

LUCKY CHARM kit by Project Life

NOTES & THINGS kit by Project Life

CHRISTMAS WISH kit by Project Life

Oh em gee! You *have* to go to Lisa’s blog and see all the photos of these kits. You’ll fall in love like I have! I’m getting “Love Notes” and “Christmas Wish” for sure. The other two are awesome but I’m more of a silver girl than gold. That’s why I’m so happy to see the Christmas kit – all that silver – swoon! {There’s been SO much gold in scrapbooking lately and I’ve felt left out, LOL!}

Pssst! There’s another must-have Project Life kit teased on Lisa’s blog. Go check it out – and she even tells you the exact time she’ll debut it. AND . . . possibly 2 other new kits, if they arrive at HSN in time. That’s about as “brand new” as it gets. I’ll be watching and the suspense is killing me :)

Speaking of which, here are Lisa’s expected times but they’ve changed last minute before so I suggest you just DVR the whole dang thing, just in case ;)

So, are you excited about any of the scrapbooking items coming up on HSN next week?

Scrapbook Product Wish List: “September Skies” by Heidi Swapp

I’m kind of hot and cold with Heidi Swapp. Well, I mean, not her PERSONALLY {because I don’t know her, unfortunately} but her scrapbooking products. Sometimes I love them and other times I kinda’ go “meh.” She can go off the rails at times for me, too bright and crazy and busy.

But here’s a new line by HS called “September Skies” that is definitely on my wish list – love it!

You can see the entire line HERE.

Here’s a layout Heidi made using “September Skies” – isn’t it lovely?

I think I summed it up pretty well on my PINTEREST BOARD: “Fresh + not your typical Fall line + leave it to Heidi Swapp”.

I love the blue / pink / navy color combo – for Fall, no less. It’s new and different and fun. I think this works especially well for Californians like me where September and even October still feel like Summer, with sun and fun and temps in the 80s and 90s. I was just at the beach the other day and those pics would look great with this line!

I’ll be looking for a good deal on the “September Skies” line so I can add it to my stash and make some late-summer pages! Do you like it?

Project Life: “Oh Life” is Shutting Down :(

I know some Project Lifers used “Oh Life” to keep track of daily photos and journaling, so I wanted to share this e-mail about them shutting down:

We’ll unfortunately be shutting OhLife down on October 4, 2014.

We started OhLife to help people remember what’s happened in their life. But since then we haven’t been able to grow our user base or make OhLife financially stable. Because of both these reasons we’ve decided to shut OhLife down. We appreciate everyone that’s used OhLife and supported us.

We’re extremely sorry for shutting the site down.

We have some FAQs below to help out. Thank you for all your support.

Thank you,
The OhLife Team

How do I export my entries?
You can save your entries to a text file here: https://ohlife.com/export
Please export them before we shut down and delete them on October 4, 2014.

How do I save photos?
The Past page (https://ohlife.com/past) has a list of all your entries, so you can quickly scroll through them to find your photos. If you click a photo it will take you to the original version.

What if I had a premium account?
If you had the premium version, a few weeks after we shut OhLife down we’ll refund you a prorated amount.

I signed up for Oh Life but never really got into using it. {I have online privacy issues, LOL}. But it seemed like a service of great value to scrapbookers and I’m sorry to see them go :(

Did you use Oh Life to do your Project Life journaling? If not, what other service or method do you use?

Free Scrapbooking Kindle Book! {Pssst! You Don’t Need a Kindle to Read It . . . }

Heya! I just got this e-mail from Lain Ehman who does True Scrap (and makes 6-figures in the scrapbooking industry on her own, by the way . . . so she’s an idol of mine).

Anyhoo, I wanted to share it ‘cuz I know you love reading about scrappy things as much as I do. She and the instructors from True Scrap 6 have a fun little KINDLE BOOK available! {What’s True Scrap 6? Read my blog entry here}.

Something cool to tell you about! The True Scrap 6 instructors and
I have just released an e-book on Amazon that shares some of our
best tips for motivation and inspiration in your scrapbooking. It’s
called “Profiles in Scrapbooking,” and it’s available as a Kindle
download for F-R-E-E for a limited time!

Regularly $2.99, this short volume includes profiles from each of
the True Scrap 6 instructors, where we talk about our tips for
breaking through those stagnant times, new discoveries about our
own crafting, and more!

Pretty darn cool, huh?

Just click on the book title to download it for FREE! “Profiles in Scrapbooking: Inspiration, Wisdom, and Advice for Your Memory-Keeping Journey”

If you don’t have a Kindle or other e-reader, don’t despair. You don’t actually need one to download and read Kindle books. I *know*, right?!? You just need a computer, smartphone, or tablet and use the Kindle app. You can download that and find all the info RIGHT HERE on Amazon.

Just a note: At the end of the book, there’s a coupon code to save $20 off True Scrap 6 which is held in mid-October. But if you click the link above to my blog entry about TS6, there’s a coupon code there for the same amount (if you don’t want to read my scintillating post, here ya’ go: use HERO by 10-10-14 to save $20).

I just downloaded my copy. Guess I know what I’m doing at lunchtime today! Happy Scrappy Reading :)

“Lovely” Scrapbooking Line and Project Life Mini Kit by Shimelle

I talked about this line a bit HERE but it was early days and there wasn’t much to go on.  Now I’m happy to say I have a better look at Shimelle’s new line to share with you!

First of all, the items that I ordered from her scrapbooking line FINALLY arrived and – no surprise – I totally love them.

DSCN5330

I got the 12×12 paper pad, the Accent and Phrase Stickers, and the tape dispenser (I added the washi tape; it does NOT come with it). The paper is nice and thick cardstock weight. The stickers are cardstock weight as well and have some gold foiling on them. Be aware they have the white backing or outline to them, so if you don’t like that – don’t get these.

The die cuts I received from a Scrappy Angel who posted them as a Pay It Forward and I LOVE them!  I believe it’s about half of the pack.

I also wanted to share a YouTube video I found that shows the entire Project Life “Lovely” line by Shimelle:

https://youtu.be/5W_JjupKg1s

Isn’t it awesome!  And that girl loves <3 hearts <3 as much as I do, LOL!

The colors and designs in this line are just what I was hoping for.  I love the mix of pastels with darker colors AND black/white.

First, I need to order the Project Life “Lovely” mini kit.  Then I think I’m going to use the whole shebang on my summer vacation album.  I have a mix of photos – beach, baseball games, winery, and lots of outdoor shots.

IMG_5087

IMG_5120

I was wondering how to find a line that would look good with the pastels and turquoise of the beach, the red and blue of the baseball games, and all the bright green of the nature shots.  I think this line will be just, well, LOVELY!

PS:  Re-reading my past “Lovely” entry that I linked to in the beginning . . . reminded me to look on Amazon for the Lovely kit.  {I’m an Amazon-a-holic, just love to get Prime when I can & their customer service is so great}.

Well, I didn’t find the Lovely kit (yet) but Amazon does have the PROJECT LIFE “DAZZLE” MINI KIT I referred to back then.

They also have the NEW PROJECT LIFE VALUE KITS that I talked about HERE.  “Hi, Sunshine” is already in my cart.  Ruh-roh, I think I’m about to get in lots of trouble over there . . . ;)

Oh, Thank YOU Heaven Above! Tuesday Morning to Expand Scrapbooking

I first heard about this a couple of weeks ago from my dear scrapbook friend, MISS ANGIE.

Who heard from the manager of her Tuesday Morning store that they had a new buyer who is a CRAFTER and that we could expect their crafting section to expand. She was said to be tenacious and was seeking out new suppliers of crafting supplies.

And we rejoiced.

To confirm that the rumor seems to be true, lookie what just landed in my inbox:

BLADOW!

And the scrappers all over America who live in smaller areas and have no LSS, Joann, or Hobby Lobby and not only just a Michaels but a small, slow-to-get-new-stuff Mike’s DID A HAPPY DANCE to hear this news.

Yes, they did. {Can you see me dancing from there? I’m doing the Cabbage Patch, a little bit o’ Running Man, oh no, now I’m booty poppin’ and twerking . . . join me, won’t you?}

I’ll keep my fingers crossed that “crafts” includes a lot of “scrapbooking”. From recent Tuesday Morning scouting reports I’ve read online, the scrapbook offerings lately have been pretty dang awesome – newer lines for great prices.

If you’re happy about this as well, PLEASE find Tuesday Morning on your choice of social media and thank them – I’m off to Tweet them myself. Let’s show them what a nice little band of shoppers we are and what a good move this was (wink wink).

Whoo hoo, just made my day!!!!

Online Scrapbook Classes: It’s Time to Sign Up for “True Scrap 6”

TRUE SCRAP 6 opens for general registration today: 09-09-14!

I’ve attended several True Scrap events in the past and swear by them, fo’ sho’. If you want to read some of my reviews, you can see past blog entries HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE. My favorite online scrapbook class EVER was from True Scrap 3 – read that review HERE.

There are 2 changes this time I wanted to tell you about – as requested by past attendees: A shorter event and a smaller price!

This year’s event has been reduced to 1 day instead of 2 (all day Saturday 10-18-14) with a virtual PJ party the night before where you just hang out online and chat with other attendees from around the world. It’s a smaller event (8 classes and 3 virtual make-and-takes), with a correspondingly smaller price point that many asked for.

On top of THAT, I have a discount code for you that’s good from 09-09 through 10-10-14: Type HERO in the box and save $20. Woot! I’m ALL about saving money where we can . . . ‘cuz that means we can spend the savings on scrapbook supplies, right?

Using the discount code takes the price from $99 down to $79 – or from $12 to under $10 per class. As I always say about Lain’s classes, that’s a real bargain compared to in-person classes at your LSS (do you even have one anymore? I don’t.) or other online classes.

If you’re waffling a bit about registering, please keep in mind that the webroom only holds 500 people. A bunch of seats have already been sold because they’re first offered to members of ScrapHappy (Lain’s membership site), and then she did Early Bird Sign-ups for those on her mailing list.

Oh jeez, I haven’t even said what True Scrap 6 *is* yet, have I?

Well, it’s an online scrapbook event put on by Lain Ehmann – she’s done 8 or 10 of these now and has it down to a science. TS6 ncludes the following classes:

Tracy Banks: Layering: Punch It, Roll It, Make It Yours
Kelli Crowe – Saw This, Made That: Bringing Ideas to Life
Jennifer Gallacher – Mood-Based Scrapbooking: An Inspirational Guide
Noell Hyman – Small Details, Big Picture
Katrina Kennedy: Capture Your Celebrations – Photographing Food, Family, And Fun
Layle Koncar – Flip It, Score It, Make It, Shake It!: Innovative, Interactive Mini Book Techniques
Nichol Magouirk – From Pocket to Page: Pocket Cards for 12×12 Layouts
Donna Salazar – Mixed Media Masterpieces Using Crafty Supplies

For more detail on the classes, you can click HERE and scroll down.

As always, each class sounds so interesting. I’m especially looking forward to those by Noell Hyman (going through a month of photos and deciding which to do layouts with and which to use Project Life, essentially) and Katrina Kennedy (photographing celebrations and other things I find challenging due to low-light, etc. – and I have a new camera!). Nichol Magouirk’s sounds good, too – Lordy knows I have a gatrillion PROJECT LIFE CARDS to use! {It’s been over a year since that entry and it’s gotten well and truly worse, ack!}

While their topics don’t super-intrigue me, I may take Kelly Crowe and Layle Koncar’s classes just because they’re both such a hoot! If you guys attended True Scrap Pocket Pages, you remember how fun Layle was from Simple Stories (and she gave away a Simple Stories prize, which I’m hoping she does again!). What I have found from taking entire True Scrap events is that classes that don’t interest me at all ‘on paper’ end up being some of my favorites. “True Scrap is like a box of chocolates. You just never know what you’re going to get.” Hee.

I’m still deciding if I’ll sign up or not. I didn’t get on the Early Bird mailing list in time, therefore no 30% discount on the price. And I’m not a ScrapHappy member anymore either so I don’t get that discount. I’ve really had to cut my scrappy spending lately :(

A month or so after Lain’s events, she usually puts the classes for sale “a la carte” so I may just wait for that and buy the specific classes I want. But if they end up being $10-12 each x the number of classes I want, it might add up to $79-ish anyway . . . bah! If I DO end up doing the entire TS6 event, I’ll make sure to post some reviews of the classes to help you decide which ones you may want to buy. We shall see . . .

Are you going to attend “True Scrap 6” or perhaps buy some a la carte classes later? If you do sign up now, don’t forget to use the code HERO to save $20. You can register (or just check out all the info) RIGHT HERE.

Have a great rest of your week . . . :)

Scrapbook Obsession Weekly Roundup 08-31-14

I hope you’re enjoying a fabulous and relaxing Labor Day Weekend, if you’re in the States. If you haven’t done any shopping yet, make sure to check out my post with a bunch of scrapbook-related sales and discounts RIGHT HERE.

I’m going to try something new here @ Scrapbook Obsession Blog – a weekly round-up post of cool things I saw online this week that I think will be right up your alley. And away we go!

– Sounds like the first CHA PAPER ARTS SHOW was a success. Do you think they’ll keep doing them?

ECHO PARK has posted some videos showing how to use their new “Designer Dies and Stamps.”

– This COOL ITEM is supposed to be for party tabletops but I’m picturing it being very useful on my scrapbook desk!

– I keep hearing THIS NEW COMPANY‘s name mentioned lately.

– Simple Stories has been putting out some great “Inspiration E-Books” for each of their new lines. Check out the latest one HERE.

– Don’t forget to use these GREAT COUPONS by tomorrow, Monday 09-01-14!

BIG NEWS from October Afternoon, one of my favorite lines in the whole scrappy world. {There was some message board speculation that they were closing or selling to another company because of their, um, business practices? But, no, that’s not it . . . Phew!}

– Lisa at “Blackbird Darlin'” blog is making a Project Life album in 6×8. Check out her progress HERE.

Did you enjoy the “Scrapbook Obsession Weekly Roundup” post? Please let me know in Comments below. Based on your feedback and traffic, I’ll most likely continue doing these. They’re fun, don’t you think?!?!

New Product Videos: Amy Tangerine, Dear Lizzy, Maggie Holmes, and Webster’s Pages

Check out these preview videos of brand new lines from BLUE MOON SCRAPBOOKING – lots of yumminess to follow. Get out yer drool cup!

“Stitched” by Amy Tangerine for American Crafts due in September 2014

Okay, I’m not into the stitching thing AT ALL. Ain’t nobody got time for that! But I love the rest of her line. Those Thickers especially are going to break my budget.

“Serendipity” by Dear Lizzy for American Crafts due in November 2014

Very girly and I love her handwriting!

Any my personal favorite, “Open Book” by Maggie Holmes for Crate Paper (release date unknown)

Love this whole line! Maggie has a special talent for putting together such a variety of images that you wouldn’t think would go together . . . yet they do. That paper pad will be mine for sure.

While I was checking out Blue Moon’s videos of “coming soon” stuff, I found this video of Webster’s Pages “Ocean Melody” (second half of video).

I’ve been hearing everyone online raving about it but hadn’t seen the whole collection yet. Honestly, I was kind of avoiding it, LOL. I live near the ocean and we go all the time – hence, I have lots of beach photos. I knew I would want it if i dared to look.

For instance, we were just at the beach last evening – here are some of the many iPhone photos I took:

IMG_4920

IMG_4924

IMG_4925

So I KNEW I would love and want the entire “Ocean Melody” line.
And I love it.
And I want it.
ALL.
Crud.

Wouldn’t that vellum called “Dusk” go perfectly with my recent photos?

At the beginning of the video, they also show “Strawberry Fields” which is lovely as well. It’s not my style as much as the “Ocean Melody” but I definitely want a few sheets of that bokeh and other papers.

BLUE MOON SCRAPBOOKING has both Webster’s Pages lines in stock now. Of course, they’ll stock the new Amy Tangerine, Dear Lizzy, and Maggie Holmes lines when released as well. I’m headed over there to shop . . . if I don’t come out in an hour, send help!

SMASH Warning, New Smash Stuff at Michaels, and Project Life on Clearance

I recently noticed that the SMASH book
I had stored in a basket by a sunny window in my office had been damaged. As you can see, not only did the black and white rubber band get discolored and degraded, the sun also left a mark on the chipboard part of the SMASH book cover :(

IMG_4832

From the same basket, I pulled out the package of light blue bands to replace the ruined one with. Lo and behold, the bands inside the package were discolored, too. So, just a warning if you have SMASH products like this: Keep them away from the sun! Lesson learned.

Speaking of SMASH book products, my Michaels has a new section of them.

IMG_4829

Looks like they’re really going after the teen market, which is supah smart and I feel like the ‘ideal customer’ for SMASH books. They have a “My Life: School Edition” and “My Life: After School Edition” which are both really cute. And check out the cloth tapes in the middle of the second pic. The pink chevron was adorable.

IMG_4830

Since I’m talking about Michaels, I should let you know that the last time I was there, their Project Life stuff was on clearance.

IMG_4831

I had the 6×8 rainbow chevron album in my hands for $8 and had a coupon, too – I think it was for 20% off entire purchase including sale items. But the line was super long and I wasn’t in the mood so I left without it.

Have you had any fading problems with SMASH products?

Two Peas in a Bucket: A List of Resources as Their Final Closing Nears

As you’ve probably heard by now, Two Peas in a Bucket online store and community has closed :( If you’ve been living on a small island off of Italy, get all caught up HERE and HERE.

Though some time has passed and the shock seems to be wearing off, I can tell by my blog stats that Two Peas is still much on scrappers’ minds. There are inquiries like “what happened to Two Peas in a Bucket?” and “Two Peas where did everyone go?” and “what happens to Two Peas gallery?” You ask, I try to answer!

Two Peas in a Bucket – online store, gallery, message boards, classes, etc. – was originally slated to go dark on 07-10-14. Which is why, deep in the night of 07-09-14, I was over there copy/pasting and screen-shotting my heart out ;)

HOWEVAH! I needn’t have interrupted my procrastination binge. See? There’s always more time . . .

On 07-10-14, they sent out this e-mail:

So, we Peas were given a reprieve of sorts until Friday, 07-24-14 at midnight CST. This has been the message on Two Peas since then:

Talk around the scrapbook interwebs has been purely speculative but former Peas think that Two Peas either: 1. Didn’t realize what a huge undertaking shutting down a site of that magnitude would be, 2. They realized how crazy it was to shut their site down when they still had an audience and product to sell, and/or 3. TPTB (as we Peas always called The Powers That Be) are trying to work out deals with current/past Garden Girls about possibly turning over all of their great content and classes . . . as, kinda DUH, should’ve been arranged for once the decision was made to shut down Two Peas.

There has also been speculation that the delay possibly means a Hail Mary save by someone – perhaps a big company like American Crafts? Alas, there are no signs of that so far and the closure is only 3 days off. Personally, I’m SHOCKED that no one has bought the Two Peas infrastructure to either revive or re-brand. The built-in audience is AMAZING and any company could utilize it to sell enough to stay in business.

I don’t for a minute think Two Peas closed because “there wasn’t enough business” or a lack of customers. They had the largest built-in audience of scrapbookers (and non-scrapbookers for that matter on NSBR), they just chose not to utilize it. The reasons for that will probably never be known. As a businesswoman myself, it just boggles my mind. It’s like someone just throwing away buckets (pun intended) of money. (Shakes head …).

TWO PEAS ONLINE SHOP

As of this writing on the night of Monday, 07-21-14, there are 1207 items left in the TWO PEAS STORE. These include digital cut files, digital printables, and physical product. Of the actual supplies, 3 brands plus Two Peas brand make up a lot of what’s left: American Crafts (159), Pebbles (96), and Studio Calico (89). {Not surprisingly, these are all brands under the American Crafts ever-growing umbrella}. Two Peas own brand shows (83) items but I saw at least (9) of those are sold out. There is a lot of cute flair that I had to restrain myself from buying.

Speaking uh which, do you think someone at Two Peas is having a bad week? LOL

GARDEN GIRLS & GLITTER GIRL

Speaking of the Garden Girls, if you’re missing them and want to follow them again, check out THIS blog entry by Jen Gallacher. She has a great list with links to all of them.

If you’re missing the ever-fearless Glitter Girl – or her sidekick Shimelle – you can keep up with at least the latter on SHIMELLE’s BLOG. Have you seen or purchased her NEW LINE? I’m definitely going to get most of it. It’s in stock at BLUE MOON SCRAPBOOKING if you’re ready to buy!

“Two Peas in a Bucket” Online Scrapbook Store Closes After 15 Years Amid Much Contro

What many suspected was going to happen – happened. Today, the “TWO PEAS IN A BUCKET“* online scrapbooking store announced it’s closure.

*Please keep in mind that the links and images in this blog post from the Two Peas site will cease to work once they shutter everything for good.

Why is this such a big deal, you ask? Well, Two Peas was a leading store, had been in business for 15 years, provided first-class scrapbooking resources to their members, and hosted one of the most active message board forums ANYWHERE. I mean, not just scrapbooking forums but on ANY topic.

The Two Peas site is down at the moment but I believe they had over 400,000 members. Just amazing. The Two Peas scrapbook message board was responsible for introducing scrapbooking to many women and introducing online scrapbook shopping and forums to many scrapbookers. They were a major force in the industry, without a doubt.

For a great synopsis of the Two Peas business story, check out Nancy’s great article HERE at ScrapbookUpdate.com. Then come back here, K? We need to discuss this!!

It appears from posts on social media that the news of this closure took many by surprise, even ‘scrapbook celebrities’ and those affiliated with Two Peas in some way. Ali Edwards posted on Facebook, “Whoa. Just read that Two Peas is closing.” Lisa Truesdale said, “I’m reeling.” Also on Facebook, Kerri Bradford posted, “Oh my gosh. Two Peas is closing??? So sad. I remember when it was first starting out. Kristina used to be part of the PC Design Team when I was on it back in 1999. Ohhhh, sadness. It’s the end of an era” and “You just never think that some place like that will end.”

I was a very active “Pea” on the message boards for over 6 years so this does have some impact on me. I visit the Two Peas “General Scrappin'” and “NSBR” message boards many times a week. I’ve learned so much and had such great fellowship and friendship there over the years. I’ll really miss Two Peas.

I have to admit that I posted less frequently over the last 15 months because of some things that happened in 2013. I explained that big ol’ mess in THIS post from March 2013, if you should care to read all about it ;)

Not only did Two Peas’ apparent lack of care for their customers keep me away somewhat, but I also joined another scrapbook message board at that time and it became my main online home.

But I still popped in to the Two Peas boards almost daily and lurked even when I didn’t post as often. I have another blog post I’m working on to say my goodbyes to Two Peas so I’ll just leave my own perspective at this for now.

I know all good things must come to an end at some point and, even though rumors of Two Peas’ demise have been rampant this year, it still came as quite a shock to get this e-mail from them today:

The Peas are reacting with shock, sadness, frustration, and anger. While most are very sad to hear of the closure, they’re wondering what happens now to the “lifetime” access they had to paid Two Peas online classes. The site has been up and down all day, probably due to the mad rush to try and download class content before it disappears for good.

There are also Peas downloading fonts, gallery posts, bookmarked threads, etc. that they had been building up over the years and now will go *poof* in a matter of days.

Many are shocked and saddened that – with today’s announcement of their upcoming store closure – Two Peas has blocked any further posting to their forums. They can be read but no further posts can be added, thus leaving thousands of Peas at loose ends.

They would’ve liked the chance to say their goodbyes, exchange contact information, thank Two Peas, ask questions, and communicate about where they might hang out in the future. {Facebook groups and forums have already been created for Two Peas “refugees”}.

On the one hand, I understand the frustration with the message boards being closed off to posting with absolutely zero notice. On the other, I can see that it’s probably impossible to keep them open and would cause servers to be overwhelmed and go down worse than they have been. Note: Peas can directly “PM” or mail each other via Two Peas so that’s an option.

So, that’s the sad tale of Two Peas closing :(

I can’t say that I’m surprised – the writing’s been on the wall for some time now – but I’m still sad. I don’t think it’s “the end of the scrapbooking industy” as some are speculating. Scrapbooking is here to stay, no doubt about it. I think Two Peas had (and still has, if anyone wanted to take them over) a host of EXCELLENT resources and infrastructure in place to make a highly successful scrapbooking business. I’m baffled as to why Two Peas would throw all of that away, why the company wasn’t sold or offered for sale (to my knowledge), etc. Perhaps more information will be revealed eventually to explain all of that, I don’t know.

Either way, it’s a sad day here in Scrapbook Land :(

Please share your thoughts in Comments below. Were you a “Pea”, did you shop there, or buy classes? Were you surprised by today’s news or had you seen it coming? I’d love to hear from you.

The Top 5 Things I’ll Do When . . .

Wow, I haven’t posted since May 13 . . . almost 3 weeks . . . that’s probably a record :(

I’m what you call OVER-COMMITTED. Or SHOULD BE COMMITTED may be more like it. Luckily, there now seems to be an end in sight. I’m not going to state what it is for fear of being jinxed . . . AGAIN.

But there’s no harm in planning ahead, right?

Top 5 Things I’ll Do When I Get My Life Back:

1. Play with my new camera that’s still in the box. It’s a Panasonic DMC-ZS35K 16.1 MP Digital Camera with 3-Inch LCD (Black)

Yep, that’s a flip-up screen for family shots and selfies. Not a feature I went in search of but it came on the camera I wanted for other reasons so . . . yeah, can’t wait to play with my new baby!

2. Work on the blog and start the project I talked about ALMOST 3 WEEKS AGO.

3. See “The Fault in Our Stars” movie when it comes out this month.

I finally got around to reading the book on a recent road trip and LOVED IT!! So, so good. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it’s still only $4.99 FOR KINDLE. I think that’s the price it’s been since the beginning and it’s not gone up even though it’s become insanely popular. Bravo.

4. Order some of the new Simple Stories line, “Good Day Sunshine”. I’ve been seeing great reviews online and lots of cute layouts using it.

5. Tell Melissa Stinson/Scrappy Jedi how much I’ll miss her :(

Okay, back to work, mah peeps! Hope you’re ready for summer and have some fun plans on tap <3

A New Scrapbooking Project . . . and A New BLOG?

As I mentioned in my LAST POST about my scrapbooking haul from Michaels, I’m starting a new project: a combination Gratitude and About Me journal and mini book.

From Michaels, I recently bought this gorgeous pink 6×8 album, along with the Weekly Planner and Journal Pages sets, by Project Life. I got them for either 40 or 50% off using sales and coupons.

IMG_4447

IMG_4273

IMG_4272

Here’s the album with JUST the Journal Pages set inside and, as you can see, it’s chock full.

IMG_4445

I had to put this page first in the album . . . SO PERFECT!

IMG_4446

Obviously, I’ll have to pull out some of the Journal Pages to make room for some of the Weekly Planner pages, which is fine because they’re pretty generic, basically just lined or grid journal pages with differing amounts of space to write on.

I also want to take out these divider pages and use the monthly ones from the Weekly Planner set. If this works out, I’ll have a similar set ready to go for next year, too.

So, back to the MAMBI Sticks from the other post . . . I’m going to use 1 or 2 of those on the cover of this new album. I’ll be handling this book a lot so I don’t want to make it too fancy.

IMG_4453

I just love the watercolor look of that green one. It’s going to be hard to choose!

Then I’ll use the stickers from the medium-sized MAMBI set on the pages inside. I want them to be mostly journaling and, because the pages are so thick, I need to keep them flat as well. These stickers will be perfect. They make me happy just to look at them :)

I haven’t decided yet whether to include photo pocket pages in this album. I know there’ll be times when I’ll want to use a photo but, to save room, I *think* I’ll print any photos 2×3 or 3×4 and adhere them right to a page, then write the journaling around the photo.

The reason for this project: I have so many positives in my life right now. I feel like I’m at a point where things are becoming more and more clear – about what I want from life, how to be “a positive” in others’ lives, things I want to tell my kids, etc.

I’ve even started another blog with this new vision and I’m SO excited! If I stick with it long-term, I’ll share the link here ;) Hey, I realize my flaws and being The Queen of Unfinished Projects is one of them, including new blogs. Heh.

My new blog will include some scrapbooking and memory keeping but will mostly be writing – about things I think you’ll really identify with – along with photos and lots of other great stuff :) I’ve written drafts of five posts already and I’m having a blast!

I wrote a lot in school and majored in creative writing in college; I miss writing and expressing myself in that way (other than about scrapbooking, of course!). I was driving home the other day and in the space of 20 minutes, I’d written down NINE ideas for posts I wanted to write. Now THAT’S inspired!

I hope I follow through and am able to share it with you – wish me luck!
