Remember back in April when I told you about THIS. Well, it’s finally my lucky turn to host Miss Slan, as she gets word out on her new book.
What Is a Scrapbooking Mystery?
By Joanna Campbell Slan
If you love scrapbooking and papercrafting and if you enjoy a good book, you’ll probably like Paper, Scissors, Death: A Kiki Lowenstein Scrap-N-Craft Mystery. It’s my newest book and it’s a scrapbooking mystery, although you don’t have to be a scrapbooker to enjoy it.
Paper, Scissors, Death tells the story of mousy housewife Kiki Lowenstein. She has two great loves in her life: scrapbooking and her eleven-year-old daughter Anya. When her husband George turns up dead in a hotel room, Kiki refuses to accept his death was an accident. To make ends meet, Kiki must get a job at Time in a Bottle, St. Louis’s premier scrapbook store. She figures it’s the perfect place to snoop around. After all, she’s a mom, and moms are invisible, right? Kiki vows to track down her husband’s killer—and along the way, she uncovers George’s sordid secret life. Worse yet, the murderer is wise to Kiki. Finding out who caused George’s death might cost Kiki her daughter and her life.
Sprinkled throughout the book are scrapbooking tips. Since I’ve been scrapbooking since 1998, I trotted out many of my best ideas!
As a special bonus, at the end of the book there’s a coupon for 50 free digital prints from Snapfish. And if you buy it from Amazon, it’s a super bargain. Okay, 50 prints at 30¢ each is $15, and Amazon has priced the book at $10.17, so you can put that extra savings into…MORE PAPER!
Remember those Calgon commercials? “Calgon, take me away?” Books have always been more effective than bubble baths for me. Each day as I sat down to write about Kiki, I forgot about all my own troubles. My dog, Rafferty, would tug on my sleeve around 5 o’clock to tell me it was quitting time.
I hope Paper, Scissors, Death does the same for you! To order your copy, go HERE. To read a preview of the book, with recipes and a “how to” for making a small album, go to www.joannaslan.com.
Now tell me. What do you do to “get away”? Do bubble baths work for you?
Okay, I’m back. I hope you enjoyed Joanna’s article; I sure did. To answer her question, for me it’s:
~ bubble baths with an icy cold glass of white wine on the rim of the tub
~ scrapbooking in an empty house with no laundry pending
~ sneaking off to the movies by myself or with a good friend…can you say Chick Flick??
I would really appreciate any comments you would leave for her ON THIS POST. If you do, you will be entered in a drawing for a FREE copy of her book. DEADLINE TO ENTER IS SEPTEMBER 15, 2008 AT MIDNIGHT PST. If you don’t want to take any chances, just go order it now!
Joanna, I am very excited to read your book! It is exactly the kind of thing I love to read, so I am really looking forward to it!
Sounds like an amazing book!!
Please tell all your friends! You can share the link to the excerpt booklet which is posted on http://www.youpublish.com/joannaslan There’s a discount code to use with Snapfish there as well.
And do you know anyone coming to Scrapfest in Minneapolis? I’ll be there. I’d love to meet you!
Can’t wait to get this one!!! What a great combination, reading and scrapping!
It’s a win-win!!!!
Don’t enter me for the book, Erika….
I started reading mine, one I gave away on my blog… This book is awesome. I haven’t read very much since I started scrapping but this book has me hooked… I’m only on page 24, but I really like the way its written… I feel like I’m there in the story… Like KiKi is telling me her story….. The beginning starts the book out and you get carried along in Kiki’s world. I can’t wait to get back to the book and see whats happened…….I really hope there will be more of these books, Joanna….
When you were writing this book, did you get involved in the story?
How much of Kiki’s character is taken from your personality?
I Scrap So All Moments Are Remembered!!
BTW… My calgon moments are when the house is quiet and I’m at an online crop….where I get inspiration from my fellow scrappers and from the challenges….
Yes bubble baths work for me.
I love to sit and scrap when my house is quiet and clean.
Watching a movie.
Can’t wait to read this book it’s everything I like a mystery and scrapping!!! :)
I’m not a scrapbooker, but I guess folks can get pretty passionate about it. I noticed the book blurb placed scrapbooking before her daughter in Kiki’s two loves!
Patti, I was totally involved in the story as I wrote it. There’s a part–and you’ll know it when you get to it–where I broke down and sobbed. I really, really hurt. And there’s a chase scene at the end that had me spitting twigs out of my mouth.
Kiki’s a lot like me. My agent teases me about that. I apologize too much. I worry a lot. Stuff like that.
I’m definitely not perfect! Once upon a time, a friend told me, “The first time I met you I went home and told my husband I wanted to be just like you. Then I got to know you. You’re a mess.”
Lillie, I think it’s because we’re passionate about our subjects. I like to tell people that scrapbooking is writing love letters to life.
Can’t wait to get the book. I love a great mystery and the plus side is scrapbooking too. :-)
And don’t forget…there’s a coupon in the back for 50 free digital prints from Snapfish. If you normally pay 30 cents a print (and I know I’ve paid more than that), that comes to $15. On Amazon, my book is listed as $10.17. That means you GET money back for buying it!
Plus, if you are looking for a gift for a friend who is a scrapper, it’s like giving two gifts.
OMG!! Scrapbooking and reading combined! Love it:) Can’t wait to hear more about it!
My relaxation favs are
Taking a walk on a secluded beach
curling up on a rainy day with my pups, a cup of cocoa and a good book
playin bingo with my gals (even better if I win! lol!)
locking myself in my scrap space and getting creative!
Thanks for the opportunity! Yhe book sounds great!
That sounds like fun! Can’t wait to read it!!
Can’t wait for your book! So glad to have you join us on AMR! Also, how awesome about the Snapfish coupon??? Great!
I am really looking forward to this book!!
I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of this book. It just sounds like a book I would love to read – mystery and scrapbooking – what else do you need?
I can’t wait to read the book. I love mysteries and the scrapbooking tips are a fun bonus.
I like to:
~ Curl up with a good book.
~ Sit and watch the birds play in the bird bath on Saturday morning.
That sounds like a good read Erika. I always like a good story with a background setting that resonates with my life or interests. I’ll go and check it out on Amazon.
Love the idea of scrapbooking and reading, my two favorite ways to relax. But to really relax I go on a couple of girls weekends during the year just to scrapbook. It is awesome and so good for my state of mind.
This book sounds like a great read!! I can’t wait to get hold of it :) To relax, I like to read scrapbook magazines, books about scrapbooking (see how this book would fit right in!!), and blog-hop to scrapbooking sites…
I LOVE these types of books! I can’t wait until it comes out!
