CHA 2016, Part 6: Notions

First of all, what is Notions? They’re “the world’s largest creative arts distributor.” Companies like Notions are kind of a “one stop shop” for scrapbook stores where they can order products from multiple companies at once – as opposed to placing a separate order with each manufacturer.

For instance, a scrapbook store could get the new lines from 4 different companies at one time as opposed to placing separate orders with those 4 companies.

Here are some of the scrapbooking items they carry.

I visited the booth and spoke to Jim Spicer, Sales Account Representative. He told me about Notions and how they’re a benefit to scrapbook retailers.

I asked him how business was going and he said that Notions is expanding their warehouse space. They’ve been in business for over 75 years and currently have over 150,000 products in stock. Keeping in mind that Notions serves all creative arts, not just scrapbooking, I think it still bodes well for our industry, don’t you?

Jim was kind enough to pose in front of another scrapbooking display :)

We had a great conversation about the crafting industry, including trends, diversification, etc. He said one of their most popular items for all markets is adult coloring books.

I asked Jim if he felt the scrapbooking industry was still declining or if it had leveled out. He said he doesn’t see the industry decreasing, just diversifying and spreading out into more areas – like coloring books, planners, art journaling, Bible journaling, etc. For example, we talked about the “Illustrated Faith” line by Bella Blvd.

It was great speaking with someone who has such a wide view of all the crafting industries and beyond.

New Online Crafting Show and Shopping: Create and Craft.com!

Create and Craft.tv has existed in the UK but is launching TODAY in the USA as Create and Craft.com!

I heard about it some time ago and signed up for their mailing list for the launch, but wasn’t really sure what I was looking forward to :) I watched the initial show today at 12pm PST and am very excited now! It’s basically like watching HSN or QVC craft shows, like, 24/7. HOLLAH!

From what I can tell so far, there will be 15-minute demos of scrapbooking and crafting products, both live and recorded. There is a PROGRAM GUIDE so you can see what’s coming up, even sorting by your time zone. Apparently, there’s a way to set alarms for the shows you want to watch but I haven’t figured that out yet (if you do, clue me in please!). There’s also something called 7-DAY CATCH UP which seems to be a carousel of past “shows” you can watch. The HOSTS appear to be mainly Brits and an American you may recognize, Jinger Adams of Just Jinger and Cricut fame. They even have a US DESIGN TEAM.

In addition to the videos, you can SHOP at Create and Craft TV! They have everything organized by type of craft (including Papercraft) and I saw brands like Basic Grey, WRMK, American Crafts, Chickaniddy Crafts, Simple Stories, etc. In my quick skim through the products, there seems to be a pretty good variety already and the prices appear to be in line with MSRP.

I do like how they do their product listings. Check out this listing for Doodlebug “Love Always” washi tape. Along the left side, they show other Doodlebug washi tapes. Wicked smart . . . and very convenient.

If you join Create and Craft TV’s free membership, you can access things like The Hub with their social media postings, access to more videos, the blog, and Exclusives which are coupon codes and sales.

They have regular PROMOTIONS like Pick of the Week, Weekender, 4-Day Deal, etc. In addition, they have Flex Pay and shipping is Flat Rate $6.95 (with some exceptions). All their SHIPPING info sounds pretty standard.

Starting on 12-29-14, Create and Craft TV will be partnering with Joann craft stores and presenting deals from them every day at noon!

So, my first impressions of Create and Craft.com:

1. Light, bright, easy to navigate website
2. Very nicly produced videos with fun, enthusiastic hosts – maybe a little TOO enthusiastic but it is exciting being the first day and all
3. Lots of lovely British accents that I love (even several men!), including “em” instead of our ugly American “um”, LOL
4. Wide variety of craft products – I already have an idea for my first order!

Hint:

I’m so grateful to have another outlet for my Scrapbook Obsession. I work from home and have a new group of crafty peeps to keep me company while I work. I hope you check out and support Create and Craft.com! Let me know what you think :)

*** MEMORY WORKS CLOSING SALE *** Starting 11-02-13 Until It’s Gone!

As I posted here yesterday, the scrapbook company I’ve been a consultant for since 2007 is closing their doors effective 12-31-13. They also own Simple Stories and want to focus on that part of their business.

What that means is a HUGE CLOSEOUT SALE – hey, at least something good comes of it, right?

Effective November 2, 2013 all products will be clearance priced at an additional 30% discount. There will be no further reduction in price. As products sell out they will not be reordered or replaced.

Here is the Memory Works website: www.memory-works.com

Please take a look and if there’s anything you’d like to order for 30% OFF (even Clearance!), e-mail your order to me at: scrapbookobsession(at)gmail(dot)com

I will send you a Paypal invoice ASAP. Once payment is received, your order will be sent from the MW warehouse in Utah straight to you! They normally ship within 1-2 business days of order completion – although I’d allow a bit of extra time as they are flooded with orders.

I’ve been checking the MW site and don’t see the discount but please know that EVERYTHING* is 30% off. When I put things into my cart as a consultant, the discount is definitely showing. I’m off to order some goodies myself!

*NOTE: The Sn@p! albums and pages are not showing the discount and it being Saturday, there’s no one in home office for me to ask. If you want Sn@p! albums for 30% off, please send me an e-mail and I’ll find out Monday ~ thanks!

ETA 11-04-13: Apparently, the Sn@p! albums and page protectors are NOT part of this sale – sorry! But all of the Simple Stories lines and Sn@p! lines ARE part of the 30% off sale.

First come, first served and once it’s gone, it’s gone! MW carries all the major brands; here is just a sample of what we have:

SIMPLE STORIES “Everyday” Sn@p! Cards

BELLA BLVD “Daily Chevies”

GLITZ DESIGNS “Hello December”

MY MINDS EYE “Chalk Studio”

This is my last hurrah as a Memory Works Consultant. I would really appreciate your order :)

Another Scrapbook Warehouse Box Sale! This Time It’s Bella Blvd

bella blvd warehouse sale scrapbook

HERE is a .pdf with all the details. HERE it is on the Bella blog. Order by 04-30-12 for $37.99; order from 05-01 through 05-04-12 for $43.99. {I notice that the .pdf mentions the early bird price, but the blog doesn’t give specifics on it … so I’d check that .pdf linked above if you’re going to order}.

The ad says there is $125 worth of stuff so that sounds like quite the deal! I didn’t realize until I looked at their BLOG and WEBSITE that they had so many lines out. Wowzers, cute stuff.

I’m not going to order … mainly because I’ve been on a bit of a spree lately (yeah, that’s putting it lightly) and I need to chill, yo. But also because I don’t own any Bella Blvd to this point (say what???) and don’t know if I like their products enough to chance this.

But if you are a Bella fan, I say “go forth and shop, my friend!” So …. are ya’ gonna’?

ETA 04-18-12: Shout out to the PEAS! A poster pointed out that the e-mail address on the BB blog (at least as of the time I’m writing this) is missing an “L”.
