Online Scrapbook Classes: Creative Live Has Scrapbooking Classes ON SALE

One of my favorite sources of online learning – CREATIVE LIVE – has scrapbooking-related classes from their Craft & Maker series on sale RIGHT HERE to celebrate National Craft Month.

creative live scrapbooking on sale

Up to 40% off from March 16 – 22, 2015!

Several of them are digital scrapbooking-related which isn’t my groove but maybe it’s yours, or you want to learn more about it. I will say that one of the digi instructors, Traci Reed, is a great teacher. I’ve taken classes from her during TRUE SCRAP events, like her class for TRUE SCRAP: POCKET PAGES

If you’re more of a traditional (aka paper) scrapbooker like me, you might want to check out these sale classes:

Becky Higgins – Scrapbooking with Project Life
Lain Ehmann – Scrapbook Your Story
Nicole Samuels – Scrapbooking Your Baby’s First Year
Megan Hoeppner – From App to Archive: Social Media Scrapbooking

I’ve taken all of these online classes when they were in free preview mode and LOVED each one! Creative Live does a high-class job and the instructors are at the top of their game, sharing loads of information, giving real life examples from themselves and live audience members, and the classes are nice and long – totally worth the cost, especially with the discount pricing right now.

I think my favorite of the 4 classes above was Becky’s. Yes, I’m biased right now toward Project Life style/pocket page scrapbooking but that wasn’t it; it was how open Becky was about her history in the scrapbooking industry, the behind-the-scenes stories about the business end of PL, how lines are created, how she uses PL in her real life, and how emotional and honest she got – even to the point of tears at times. I can’t say I learned a TON of new things about Project Life but I learned more about Becky and scrapbooking in general that made me love both of them even more (is that frickin’ possible??!?! LOL).

Because these classes are nice and long, any of them would be great to be like your Scrapbooking TV, playing during your scrap sessions :) They don’t run sales that often so I’m happy to see this. Hope you find something you like!

Happy Scrap Classing! (har har)

Online Scrapbook Classes: Some Exciting Things on Creative Live for Crafters and Photographers

On of my favorite sources of online learning – CREATIVE LIVE – has been kind of quiet over the holidays, running mostly replays (which are free and great, too!). But they’re hitting January with a vengeance!

Check out these classes coming up for crafters/scrapbookers and photographers:

Fundamentals of Photography by John Greengo (January 12-16, 2015)

Like you, I take lots of photos. But I’ve never had ANY instruction in photography, not even a class in high school or college. I’m just wingin’ it, baby! When other scrappers talk about photography, sometimes I’m like, “What is this shutter speed that you speak of?” Yeah, it can be embarrassing. Well, this class “covers everything you need to know to take better photos. You’ll learn how to choose the gear that’s best for you and how to use it to its fullest potential.”

Bookkeeping for Crafters (January 15-16, 2015) and Bookkeeping for Etsy Sellers (January 17, 2015) by Lauren Venell

My family has a little Etsy shop but, again, we just winged it. The shop is on vacation for now but we plan to activate it again this summer. So these 2 classes really interest me. Have you thought about (or do you already) sell your crafts? This sounds like a great class to check out.

Photoshop 101 by John Willmore (January 19-21, 2015)

ANOTHER thing that would really help my photos and scrapbooking, yet I’ve never learned it: Photoshop. To be honest, I’m quite skerred of it! Very, very intimidating. In this class, Ben will show us “how to use Photoshop’s most important features by working through common, real-world projects and explaining the process. You’ll get to know the Photoshop interface and learn about the features you’ll use the most.” Sounds good to me!

If you want to read more about these classes, RSVP for the *free* initial broadcasts, or even treat yourself to the class recordings, you can check them out HERE.

Hurry! The “Fundamentals of Photography” class has started. I’m listening in while I work at home. Please come join in – it’s FREE – and say hi to “Scrapbook Obsession” in the chat :)

Deals and Steals: More October Afternoon & A Free Online Scrapbook Class!

If you were drooling over the great October Afternoon deal I got HERE, you might want to check THIS out! ScrapbookSteals.com has another OA deal today, this time with their EGGNOG COLLECTION KIT.

I am broke, baby! But if you’re so inclined, go take advantage of that deal before it sells out! Seems like a lot of fun to scrap the holidays with – maybe even do your whole December Daily with it?

I also just heard about a free scrapbooking class that I *NEED* to take and I’ll bet you do, too: “SCRAPBOOKING YOUR BABY’S FIRST YEAR” with Nicole Samuels. {If you’re one of those annoying scrappers who already has all their children’s first year of life documented from first cry to first birthday, gah! Just move along. I mean, really?!?}

I can’t find a photo/ad to copy over but this is the text from the class description:

document the magical moments.

In the flurry of adjusting to life with a new baby, it can be tempting to shelve your scrapbooking plans and leave your photographs in their digital formats. But those moments only happen once! Learn a system for getting those memories down and creating a scrapbook you’ll cherish for a lifetime.

Scrapbooking Your Baby’s First Year with Nicole Samuels will help you sift through the photos, moments, and memories and decide which ones belong in your memory books. You’ll learn how to use Studio Calico kits and products to create clean, modern scrapbook layouts that highlight the milestones and relationships that emerge in your baby’s first year. Nicole will show you how to create scrapbooks that both focus on the big events, like sitting up, and the unique ones that simply mean a lot to your family.

Time is fleeting and precious, don’t let the first year of the important child in your life go unaccounted for. Develop a system for documenting those magical moments in Scrapbooking Your Baby’s First Year.

If you click over at the link above, you can watch an intro video, too. The class is being broadcast for FREE on 10-30-14 by CREATIVE LIVE; they do tons of free and paid classes that are absolutely top-quality. You should check them out if you haven’t already. {I posted HERE about classes by scrappers Lain Ehmann and Becky Higgins in the past}. If you miss the live broadcast – and the free re-broadcast they usually do immediately following the live one – or you love Nicole’s class so much you want to buy it, it’s only $29.

Speaking of Becky, I see in the class schedule that Nicole is going to Skype with BECKY HIGGINS and ALI EDWARDS, two of my favorite scrappers! If nothing else, go RSVP for the free class so you can get a Studio Calico coupon. When you sign up, you’ll also be notified in the future when this “Scrapbooking Baby’s First Year” class will be re-broadcast again for free.

Man, I need this class! I have children who are well past babies and (gulp!) no baby books! I’ve even purchased the awesome PROJECT LIFE BABY KITS kits from Becky and gathered all the photos and memorabilia into one place. I just haven’t sat down and gotten started. I really wish I would’ve done it sooner but, hey, what’re ya’ gonna’ do? I’ll be watching this free class to get my bottom in gear, maybe even buy it afterward so I can keep getting kicked in the pants to do this super-important project.

Okay, there. I’ve saved you tons of money. What more do you want from me?!?! Have a lovely day.

Zsa Zsa Gabor’s Mother Was a Scrapbooker. Heh.

*Picture from Smithsonian Magazine

Yeah, that was my main takeaway from THIS article from the SMITHSONIAN MAGAZINE.

JUST kidding. Sheesh.

My actual takeaway was that scrapbooking continues to serve the same purpose for many that it did hundreds of years ago. From the article:

It let them take this ephemeral media, find the best parts, and give them permanence—and gravitas—by pasting them into a book.

This especially reminds me of today’s fascination with “Project Life”-type scrapbooking – where we’ve gone back to taking receipts, clothing tags, one-off photos, etc. and making them “special” by putting them in albums.

The Smithsonian article does a great job of contrasting paper scrapbooking of the past and present with the way many now choose to document their lives – via social media (heathens!). It was an enjoyable read about the history of our hobby. Please check it out, then come on back and let me know your thoughts.

That reminds me . . . I saw that MEGAN HOEPPNER is offering a CreativeLive class this week called “FROM APP TO ARCHIVE: SOCIAL MEDIA SCRAPBOOKING” kind of combining these 2 ideas.

Small world, huh? Or something like that. Anyway, just thought you might want to check out the class. I’m signed up to watch it live for free. If you love it, you can purchase the class and have lifetime replays plus the extra resources.

And CreativeLive has a sale going on through July 25 (Megan’s class is $49 vs $79) so you can watch the free preview and if you love it, buy it on sale. It’s a great time to check out all their other classes, especially the ones in the “CRAFT & MAKER” category, including Becky Higgins’ amazing CL class on Project Life. I’ve been a CreativeLive junkie since first seeing Becky on there and this is the first time I’ve seen them run a sale – so jump ON it, chickie!

Happy Learning, Lovie ….

Online Scrapbook Classes: Another Scrapbooker is Coming to “CreativeLive” . . . Woot!

I have a confession: I’m addicted to the free online courses at “CreativeLive.com.” There, I said it. As a business owner + creative type, it’s like they made the place just for me.

The addiction began when I found the PROJECT LIFE course by one of my fave scrappers, BECKY HIGGINS. {I blogged about it HERE, HERE, and HERE}.

Since then, I’ve ‘taken’ about 5 other courses and frequently check their upcoming schedule to see what looks interesting. I’d heard from LAIN EHMANN, another of my fave scrapbookers, that she was in talks with CreativeLive . . . and I’ve been waiting patiently to see if she posted more about that. She hasn’t, unless I missed it.

But what should I see today on CreativeLive but THIS!!

Scrapbooking is a powerful way to preserve memories, but the process can often feel like a time-consuming chore, rather than a chance to tell your unique story. If you’re unsure where to start or held back by your inner perfectionist, this two-day course will teach you everything you need to know about creating scrapbooks that fully, creatively document your authentic life.

Scrapbooking expert Lain Ehmann will help you understand how to focus on storytelling rather than perfection when you scrapbook. Lain will cover ways to discover your own motivations for memory-keeping and match those motivations with the scrapbooking process that works for you. You’ll learn about creating beautiful, meaningful layouts that you and your family will cherish. Lain will also cover alternative methods of scrapbooking — from working with pre-made kits to preserving memories digitally and much more. By the end of this class, you’ll love your layouts – and your memories – more.

If you’re not familiar with Lain Ehmann yet, she does lots of cool online scrapbooking events, chats, and classes.

The next thing coming up is TRUE STAMP 2014. I’m not a stamper so I haven’t signed up for it but I’ve done MANY of her other classes and events like TRUE SCRAP 4, TRUE SCRAP 5, TRUE SCRAP POCKET PAGES, and 2 or 3 of her LOAD events (that stands for Layout A Day; it’s like a monthly challenge to get you scrappin’ with support of a big group). I’ve blogged about LOAD a bunch HERE because I love them so :)

Anyhow, just wanted to let you know that Lain is coming to CreativeLive and you should RSVP now so you can watch it and participate in the chat for FREE! Once they do their original events, they’re replayed a few times – then you have to pay to access them. Hope to see you there!

And I wanted to say a huge CONGRATULATIONS to both Becky and Lain. In addition to being simple scrappers, gorgeous, and SO nice, they’re both businesswomen I look up to. Getting booked on CreativeLive is a wonderful step for their businesses. I admire the guts it takes to stand up there and talk about our hobby for 2-3 full days. It’s just awesome!

PS: Are you brave, too? Why don’t you try and get into Lain’s live studio audience? Oh, how I wish I could (dang work!). HERE is where you sign up. PLEASE let me know if you get in!
