One of the hot new items in the scrapbooking world is enamel dots. I love them because they add a little pop of color wherever you need it. They’re less work than a brad – you don’t even have to punch a hole. Just stick ’em down and be on your way :)
They aren’t overly expensive (about $2-5 per pack), come in a huge variety of colors, and usually in 3 sizes per pack.
Here’s my current collection:
Enamel dots by Recollections, My Minds Eye, and Freckled Fawn
The only pack I paid full price for was the awesome teal one from Freckled Fawn. I just had to have those because those shades of teal blue are among my favorite colors.
The Recollections packs and the Halloween/MME I got from Michaels, using a coupon on each pack. ‘Cuz you know that’s how I roll. The rest of the MME ones are from a daily deal site. I think it was around $2/pack that way.
As I bought them, they were kind of getting tucked away all over my scrap room and not being used. So now I’ve gathered them all, put them with my Project Life stuff, and will start gettin’ bizzy with some dots.
I did try to use some of the gray ones on a layout I did this past weekend but they were the wrong shade. So that means I need to buy more, right?
Confession time: How many packs of enamel dots do you own? Do you use them a lot or still in the hoarding stage like I am? LOL Would love to hear from you! Just leave a Comment below.
Aren’t you proud of me? I finally started a Pinterest account for this blog. Now, before you lecture me, let me just say this:
– I know I’m late to the party. But I brought pretzels!
– I know it’s addictive; I’ve heard the warnings.
– No, I will not forget to blog because my eyes are glazed over from all the beautifulness over there.
– I will still love you if you don’t Follow me on Pinterest . . . just not as much. Hey, deal with it.
So, please go check out my Pinterest boards! I even made it easy for you by putting that handy-dandy little “Follow Me On Pinterest” button in the right sidebar. There. You have no excuse.
I have scrapbooking boards of course – products, organization, studios, etc. – and some Project Life boards. Also other fun things that interest me like books, Italy, quotes, free printables, coffee, and more.
I was THISCLOSE to adding a martini board but I didn’t know if that was bad form for a NEWB. Maybe once I’ve been around Pinterest for a while, you think?
Are you on Pinterest? If not, why not?
If you are a Pinner, will you pretty please put your Pinterest link/name in Comments below? I will Follow you!
I just had one of the best times of 2013 – attending True Scrap 5, a 2-day online scrapbook event with over 300 scrapbookers from around the world! More on that later . . .
But after all those hours on the computer, I stepped away to (gasp) scrapbook, and I didn’t notice this offer until now . . . about 3 hours before the offer expires. So if you happen to be around this fine Saturday night, here ya’ go!
If you sign up by midnight tonight (10-12-13) and I think it’s EST, you can get ALL the classes from True Scrap 2 for only $44!! OMG, that is a sooper dooper deal!
Here are the details from Lain herself (who might have a teeny weeny crush on Mr. Hugh Jackman}:
Hugh’s 44th birthday celebration (and True Scrap 5) are almost over!
So in honor of True Scrap 5, in honor of breaking our True Scrap attendance record, and in honor of Mr. Jackman, here’s a birthday treat for you:
Save $83 (yes, that’s over 65%) on the COMPLETE recordings from True Scrap II today ONLY with code HUNK.
You’ll get 17 instructor videos like Nic Howard’s “Ready, Set, Distress,” Shimelle Laine’s “Creating Album Flow,” Kristina Werner’s “From Pages to Cards,” and over a dozen more! Over 20 hours of video content, yours at the very special price of $44, today ONLY.
Well, she had ME at Shimelle. When you click on that link above, you’ll see some other favorite scrappers and topics like: scrapbook organization, making money scrapbooking, digital scrapping, Noell Hymen from Paperclipping Roundtable, Nichol Magouirk, spray inks, making templates to print your photos, etc. I truly can’t believe the value. That’s like $2 a class and you’re not going to find this quality of instruction online ANYWHERE for two bucks a class.
I’m off to purchase now! I mean $44? That’s like going to the movies once. Or having 8 Starbucks latte’s . . . which I’m still going to have, but hey. Just trying to give you some comparisons, LOL.
Christmas is coming up . . . just tell hubby this is one of your gifts and he doesn’t even have to shop for it :)
Sheesh, Echo Park doesn’t make it easy for bloggers to share their news. Can you even see the pieced together ad above? I had to copy it over piece by piece from an e-mail they sent out.
I would send you to their blog but as of this posting, the warehouse sale is not listed on Echo Park’s blog.
Regardless . . . or is it irregardless? . . . I would be goin’ to that frickin’ sale if I lived in Utah!! Can you imagine all that Echo Park goodness in one place??
PS: After I wrote my rant, I found this on Carta Bella’s blog. It appears to be in one piece ;)
Wait, what??? CARTA BELLA too??? You people are killin’ me!
Have you see this hot new song and video? My kids showed it to me a couple weeks ago and we’ve not been able to stop singing it – and laughing – ever since.
It was posted 09/03/13 and already has 94 million hits! Apparently, “Ylvis” are 2 brothers and comedians from Norway and they made the video to publicize their TV show. Wow, you never know what’s going to take off, do you? I even heard the song on the radio today and it gave me a big smile as I drove along. Although I kinda’ felt sorry for anyone who hadn’t seen the video – they must’ve been screaming “WTH???” at the radio, LOL.
Tchoff-choff-tchoff-choff-cha-choff-choff!
To make this scrapbook-related, have you noticed a fox trend in papercrafting? Here are just a few things I’ve seen lately:
If you haven’t already signed up for True Scrap 5, ya’ gotta’ do it today, mah people! Just click here to sign up!
Inspiration and Education from 15 A-list instructors…
Five virtual project make-and-takes…
Pre-Event PJ Party…
Virtual goodie bag…
All for one low price…
All from YOUR computer!
If you enter the discount code LUCKY50, you’ll get $50 off the event! Crazy good, huh? But the deadline to use that code is today – Monday, 09/30/13 at midnight.
If you’re not sure what True Scrap 5 is or would like some help making up your mind, I’ve written a mega post about it HERE.
I’ll be attending this amazing online event and hope you can too! Would love to see you there. The chat rooms are SO fun! Not to mention all the learnin’ that goes on :)
After my LATEST POST about loving to read SCRAPBOOK NOVELS, I was very blessed to be contacted by another author asking if I’d like a copy of her book! Of course I said YES. What, am I crazy?
Nothing can quell Angeline Dunwich’s excitement as she stands before Wattle Lane Keepsakes. As she opens the door to her scrapbooking shop for the first time, Angeline hopes to encourage the residents of her small New Zealand town to explore their creativity and capture memories. Little does she know that Wattle Lane Keepsakes will very soon become the weekly destination for four women drawn to scrapbooking for widely different reasons.
Every Thursday Angeline teaches the Scrappy Cupcake Angels how to find joy through scrapbooking, and each of the four learns to confront her fears and to understand what is important in life. As Grace works on a scrapbook for her mother who has dementia, she wonders if it will help her mother cling to her last memories. Tegan scraps her travel photos with an insatiable wanderlust while contemplating where her heart really belongs. As Jodi creates beautiful layouts of her daughter, she questions whether any of her efforts will help mend her broken family. Kayla finds it easiest to express herself through her art, but secretly speculates whether she will ever gain the confidence to realise her dreams.
As Angeline opens her home and her heart to her new friends, only time will tell if the Scrappy Cupcake Angels can help her overcome her own greatest fear and fulfil a lifelong dream.
Okay, you know I’m always honest with you. The title and cover of this book threw me off. I . . . erm . . . judged a book by its cover and assumed because they are so – what? – cutesy? – that I wouldn’t like this book.
But again: I was wrong. {I know, I know, it happens occasionally!} This week, I started reading it anyway and I’m really enjoying it! It’s not cutesy at all, at least not so far. I’ve met the owner of the store on the opening day of her shop along with the 4 ladies who will become her close friends. And I look forward to getting to know them all better.
This scrapbook novel has no murdered CK Hall of Fame’ers, no big mystery to be solved, just a nice story about friendship and scrapbooking. I love that it’s set in New Zealand which is a country I don’t know much about but have always been intrigued by.
So I just wanted to let you know about this book. It’s only $3.99 for Kindle right now and I don’t know how long that price lasts.
I noticed on Kristah’s site that she said:
I am currently working on a second Wattle Lane Keepsakes novel, which is centred around a new main character, but includes some of the same characters from Scrappy Cupcake Angels.
Yippee! I hope it’s coming out soon. I have a feeling when I finish this book, I’ll want to keep reading more. And when I do finish, I’ll write a complete review and find out from Kristah how Book 2 in this series is coming along :)
I got the Kindle version and you can also get it in hardcover (kinda’ pricey?) and paperback. If you read this book, I’d love to hear what you think of it.

As I mentioned HERE, I was very excited to order these new photo overlays made by Becky Higgins for PROJECT LIFE from HSN.com.
Well, apparently I was not alone. They were an HSN exclusive item, posted to their site on Wednesday, I bought them immediately when I saw them that day, and they were sold out by Friday before the HSN Scrapbooking shows even aired on Monday night/Tuesday morning (depending on your time zone).
Mine arrived on Tuesday – fast shipping! You go, HSN. Word to ya’ mutha’.
According to Becky herself on Facebook:
For those of you who were lucky enough to score the Project Life Overlays from HSN, here’s a TIP that you’ll want to know: Be sure to peel off the protective film before using the overlays! Once you do, the clarity will blow your mind. I know a lot of you are bummed they sold out so fast (I agree that more should have been ordered). I will be able to give you an update soon about our plans to hopefully bring these back!
From the image on HSN.com, it was hard to tell exactly what you get with this kit . . .
. . . so I wanted to post some quick photos of all 60 overlays. Sorry, not the best quality pics with my iPhone first thing in the morning but here ya’ go. You can at least get an idea what the sayings are and such.
Well first, here’s the packaging. I took this in the car right when I picked them up from the post office, hee hee. The Scrapbook Obsessed will understand that I couldn’t even wait until I got home to open them up, right?
Here are the first 2 sets on some kraft cardstock:
Here are the next 2 sets on a blue/green color. I wanted to show them on different colors/shades so you can see how they look:
Here’s the last set on charcoal grey Bazzill bling. Ooooh, my arms look so skinny! These overlays are good for my self-esteem.
Here are 2 overlays on photos.
{We got to see a Dodgers/Red Sox game a few weeks ago. DODGERS: They clinch the NL West title WHEN they beat Arizona tonight, hee-yah! Oh wait, this is a scrapbooking blog . . . erm . . . so I’m pocket page scrapping the game using my Project Life “Honey” kit – 22 pages, LOL. Might be a wee bit baseball obsessed, too}.
These photos are true 4×6, printed on my Epson Picturemate. As you can see, the overlays cover to all the edges. Look at the top right corner of the top photo. They do have rounded corners – not sure how I’m going to handle that.
Here’s the whole healthy stack – 60 is a lot! But there are only a few duplicates that I noticed, of plain frames.
I figure if I used approximately 1 per week in my Project Life, I’ll go through them nicely and won’t get tired of seeing them either :)
I hope Becky is able to restock these awesome overlays and that you’re able to get a hold of them!
Are you tired yet of hearing me yap about MAGGIE HOLMES line for Crate Paper called “Flea Market”? ‘Cuz if you are sista’, just keep on truckin’. I talked about it already HERE, HERE, and HERE and now I’m going to talk about it again. {Jeez, obsess on things much? Nahhh…}
As you know, I was excited so see this line was being made into a PROJECT LIFE kit . . . and now it’s here!!
Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of that pink and green flowery pattern. Not a fan of flowery in general so no offense to Maggie or anything, LOL. And I usually prefer white backgrounds for my Project Life pages for some unknown reason. But I’m going to get this kit anyway. Maybe the flowery cards will have something I like better on the other side. Or maybe I can use them on Mother’s Day cards. Yes! Brilliant idea, if I do say so myself.
And the rest of it, I adore! Banners, chevrons, the gorgeous sea blue/green color, navy and yellow polka dots – those are all right up my alley. And those bokeh hearts kill me every time. I hear there are only two 3×4 and one 4×6 of the heart bokeh cards but that’s okay.
Thanks to my friend Renee sharing some photos of this kit that she bought, I also see there is some wood, ombre, and little hearts, too!
This is only about half of the cards but it’s enough for a great visual of this kit. Thanks so much, Renee! You rawk, ma sista’.
ETA: But wait! Even more pictures from Renee! She pointed out those BLUE bokeh hearts. Oh, be still!
I truly was going to try resisting this kit because of, well, THIS. {The first step to overcoming addiction is to admit you have a problem}. But after seeing Renee’s photos, I was done. D-U-N, dun!
If you still haven’t made up your mind, let me share a recent blog entry by Maggie Holmes herself HERE where she did some Project Life pages using her PL Mini Kit and items from the Flea Market scrapbooking line. Here is just one of her layouts:
Love this! She shows that it’s not only a “girly” kit but can clearly be used on more masculine pages, too. Go to Maggie’s blog to see more awesome ways to use this kit and her entire “Flea Market” line.
So if I’ve enabled you {wink} and you’d like to purchase this kit, it’s RIGHT HERE for the taking.
And if you get a kit and want more of those flower cards, I’ll swap ’em with ya’ – ha!
So these gorgeous little babies are already on their way to me. Sometimes I hemmmm and I hawwww about scrapbooking purchases, especially ones that cost more than $10-20. {These were $25.40 with tax and shipping, if you were wondering}.
But I didn’t hesitate on these. There’s no question they fulfill a long-needed function in my scrapbooking so I went for it. There are 60 of them. I’m not sure I’ll need that many so I may sell some off. We’ll see when they get here . . . in 5-7 business days :)
I don’t see them on AMAZON so maybe they’re another HSN exclusive? If anyone knows, please do tell!
Thought my fellow scrappers would want to see these.
I’ll be posting photos and a review soon so stay tuned …
PS: I’m going to compare these albums to the ‘old’ 6×8 Sn@p binders and to the 12×12 leather albums by WRMK. If you have any other questions you’d like answered about them, please post in Comments below. Thanks!
A little update to my LAST POST. I wanted to make sure e-mail subscribers got the news: The newly-released scrapbooking mystery novel “Designed to Death” IS available for Kindle. And it’s only $2.99 :)
I love to read scrapbook novels, don’t you? This summer, I was lucky enough to get an Advanced Reader Copy of a new scrapbook mystery novel; I talked about it HERE.
ETA: Originally I couldn’t find “Designed to Death” for Kindle so I asked the author about it and she had great news – it’s available today for Kindle too! Amazon wasn’t linking it to the hard copy for some reason. But never fear, YOU CAN GET IT HERE! For only $2.99.
From Amazon:
SMALL TOWN INTRIGUE, TWISTS & TURNS, AND PLENTY OF HEART…
“Faith Hunter planned the perfect event at her grandmother’s shop, Scrap This, featuring local scrapbooker and Life Artist Diva, Belinda Watson. But the extravaganza goes up in a cloud of glitter when Belinda and her cousin, Darlene, brawl over scraplifted designs. Faith attempts to break it up, but only makes things worse. Then when Belinda turns up dead behind the Scrap This store, Faith’s involvement goes viral.
As accusations against her turn vicious, Faith sets out to prove her nemesis, Darlene, committed the crime, only to realize they are both innocent. Now they must team up or the murderer’s plan will come together seamlessly with the frenemies sharing a jail cell or worse, a funeral.
“Designed to Death” is book 2 in the Faith Hunter “Scrap This” mystery series. To make this day even better, book 1 in the series – “CROPPED TO DEATH” is on sale for Kindle right now, only 99 cents! I asked the author how long “Cropped to Death” will sell for 99 cents and she said through 09-16-13. So don’t hesitate . . . go grab it right now before you forget!
Here’s my quick review:
I love reading series. “Designed to Death” picks up picks up right where “Cropped to Death” left off. The setting and many of the characters remain the same. I like that continuity and didn’t feel I had to spend any time getting to know these people because I was already comfortable with them.
There’s another murder and the main character, Faith, seeks to solve it in her usual saucy, sarcastic style {hmm … wonder why I relate to her so much?}. The romance also continues and in this book, Faith makes a choice between her two suitors. {I have to admit I was disappointed in her choice, lol}. The story is again filled with scrapbooking references that the scrapbook obsessed will appreciate and identify with. She takes the term “a new use for washi” to new heights!
One thing that cracked me up about this book is the role that a scrapbook message board plays. I’m a very active member of the TWO PEAS in a BUCKET message board (among others) and I think the author Christina must be there a lot, too! She has scrapbook message board behavior down to a T! If for nothing else, you have to read this book to LOL about scrapbooking MB’s being outed. Tooooo funny! Loved it.
Christina also wanted me to tell you that she’s working on Book 3 in this series – “Embellished to Death” – and it’s scheduled for release at the end of April 2014. Woot!
Make sure to read BOOK 1 and BOOK 2 in the Faith Hunter “Scrap This!” mystery series in the meantime so you’re ready for Book 3 in the spring!
This was posted by Layle Koncar, Simple Stories Marketing Director, on Two Peas:
Calling all Simple Stories and December Daily fans! Have you made a December Daily album using our SN@P! Binder? If so, please send an email to layle@simplestories.com with a photo of the cover along with photos of several inside pages. We’ll be doing a special blog feature in the future surrounding our SN@P! Binders and December Daily and we’d love to see your work for possible inclusion in the feature!
Thanks!
Hope to see you featured! Tell her Erika @ Scrapbook Obsession sent ya’:)
Sorry no bloggee for me lately. No, I didn’t get trampled by scrappers running to buy all the new Project Life THEMED KITS coming out this month. Nor was I run over by the October Afternoon WAREHOUSE SALE truck.
Nope, just the same old reason … super busy with work and family stuff. And a ran an online crop last weekend at my favorite message board – including Scrapbook Bingo! We had a blast and hope to do it again soon.
Speaking of October Afternoon, how did I miss THIS?!?!? It’s called “Milk Money”, a super cute school line. The papers and stickers are so cute, and these are a MUST-HAVE!
OA “Milk Money” Pillow Puffs
OA “Milk Money” Pop Drops
In fact, there is much of the DAILY FLASH line that I need to start saving for now. What do you think of OA’s new stuff? Maybe now that they’ve PARTNERED WITH Webster’s Pages, delivery to their frothing and drooling public (aka ME) will arrive sooner than later for once. Here’s hoping!
Lot’s of buy-outs and join-ups in the scrapbooking world these days. I just heard that WRMK BOUGHT A COMPANY, too. Hey, whatever keeps them viable and making scrappy products for us to enjoy, I say!
And I’ll close with a lovely video that made me smile . . . hope it does the same for you: IRISH CUPS.
I’ve never been a huge fan of Autumn. The green that I love turns orange and red, the kids are gone all day at school {yes, for me that’s a downside, lol}, and the weather turns chilly. I’ve always been more of a Spring and Summer girl.
But lately October has become one of my favorite months of the year. Wanna’ know why? ‘Cuz it’s TRUE SCRAP time in the hizzy, fer shizzle!!!
And October 11-12, 2013 is time for TRUE SCRAP 5. {If you’re signing up right away, make sure to use the discount code at the end of this article!}
Have you attended a True Scrap event yet? I’ve done 2 and if YOU haven’t … well, Sis, you are missing out. What is True Scrap 5? Here’s a description from the organizer herself, Lain Ehmann:

What I’ve been doing is buying partial kits, trading cards, and selling cards. I think the only kit I still have all the cards for is Baby and that’s because I’m going to use it for multiple baby books. Oh, and I have all of Wellington and Wedding but those are mini kits.
The large and small boxes that Project Life come in are very nice but they’re not a very efficient use of space, especially when you only own 1/4 or 1/3 of the larger kits. So I decided to throw away all the PL boxes and come up with a new storage system.
Requirements:
1. Easily accessible
Opening one lid is fine but I don’t wanna’ be opening cases inside of cases and I need to be able to flip through the cards.
2. Something I can label
I need to SEE the names not just SEE the cards. I’m weird like that.
3. Something I can keep on my desk
Another thing I didn’t like about keeping the cards in the original PL box was that they were too big to keep on my desk, so I had to go over to the bookshelf to get them every time I worked on my Project Life or a PL-type album.
One idea I’d thought about replicating was from LAYLE KONCAR at SIMPLE STORIES. She used one of those old cassette holders (in case you are disgustingly young, cassettes were music-playing things before iPods came along). She tilted it up and it’s genius how you can see all your cards so well with this system.
Alas, it didn’t meet requirements 2. and 3. above :(
I got this wild hair late Friday night so no time to go shopping for a storage system. I perused my stash and decided to use some plastic shoe boxes I got from Target awhile back. They were holding handmade cards I’ve received over the years and various mini albums, mostly made at CKU and such. So those things were dumped out and I need to find a new home for them now. Which is a pain.
But totally worth it because look how great my new Project Life card storage came out! All my PL cards are in there except Wellington which is on my desk as I’m currently working with it.
As you can see, the box on the left is for Project Life cards and on the right is for Sn@p!, MAMBI, free printables, and misc. cards like those calendar cards from ELLE’S STUDIO. I used lined Project Life 4×6 blank cards to create the dividers, along with washi tapes and my Brother label maker. No, I’m not super creative but it got the job done.
I’m so happy that all my Project Life, Sn@p!, MAMBI (can you say “Addicted!”???), and free printable cards are all in one place! Well, two places but you know what I mean. They sit to the right of my chair at my L-shaped desk. A divided tray with all my other Project Life-y type stuff sits to the left – washi, 6×6 pads, WRMK small pads, corner rounder, arrow punch, date stamps, ink, stickers, etc.
It gets very dusty in my scraproom so I love that this is covered storage. When I’m actively using them, I can slip the shoebox lids right underneath the boxes so they don’t take up extra room or flop backward covering other things like the PL boxes do. And when I’m not using them, they seal on the boxes tightly and keep the dust out.
Plus I {heart} hearts SO much! They just make me happy and I’m glad they’re now sitting so close to me at my desk instead of way across the room on that ol’ bookshelf like before. Now we can get to know each other better, maybe go out for a drink, play Scrabble, you know, that kind of thing.
So there’s my latest version of scrapbook storage for all those Project Life-type cards. What do you think? How are yours stored? I would love to hear!
I saw this when I was at Michaels recently and thought y’all might be interested in it. It’s a lapdesk specifically for scrapbookers made by Mike’s store brand, Recollections.
I think it’s a clever idea. So many scrappers don’t have a designated scrapbook space, others like to sit in bed to scrap or join their family in front of the TV. OOH! Or you could use it on long car rides!
The pink print is, well, kinda’ bright – but pink is one of my favorite colors so I’m down with that. And the price {retail $49.99} is a bit steep but they routinely put storage items on 40% or 50% off (if not, use a coupon!).
One the one hand, I don’t think I’d use that clip at the top on layouts as they probably intend for fear of damaging my paper. On the other hand, it could be handy to hold your pen, scissors, a journaling tag, etc.
What do you think? Do you like this new scrapbooking product at Michaels?
