What’s New at My Michaels – May 2016

Are you sitting down? Because what I have to tell you is going to drop you if you’re standing:

I haven’t been to Michaels in over a month.

Say whuuut?! I know. What is this world coming to? Better question: How are they staying in business without me?

I finally made it over there because I’d heard tell that some of the items I wanted from CHA were spotted.

Because it’s been so long, I’ll give you a little tour of my Michaels, how some of the layout has changed, and what new things I saw.

The first endcap to the scrapbook section seems to always have Heidi Swapp stuff and this time was no exception. The Instax cameras have been around for a while, of course, but some of the HS “Insta” stuff was new. I saw those square albums at CHA (see my post HERE). I talked about that cute ocean Instax album HERE.

IMG_2234

IMG_2233

Everything was 40% off. Can you guess which item I snagged? Hint: It’s not one of the things I already mentioned.

The 12×12 paper pad section in my Mike’s has always been pretty small, maybe 1/4 of one side of an aisle. (I’ve been in another store where paper pads took up one whole side of an aisle and I was so jealous!). These 4 pads looked new – but none were my taste, so I was safe there. Phew!

IMG_2235

This arrangement is fairly recent. From Left to Right, it used to be Martha Stewart for the first 3 or 4 panels, then the washi tapes. Now the washi has been moved to where Martha was and all this DIY party favor / papercrafting stuff sorted by color for the rest of the space. I have nothing against basics (there’s some cute washi and clothespins in there!) and was never much of an MS fan so this change is fine with me. I say that like Michaels Corporate gives a flock what I think, LOL.

IMG_2236

Some of the famous washi tape sets are here on the bottom – so pretty! But I think I like the row above even better. Got my eye on that green set ;)

IMG_2238

The Project Life section looked mostly the same. I think there are some new smaller sets on the top right since I was last here but none were up my alley. Again, phew!

IMG_2239

IMG_2240

Some cute new Studio G stamps on the side of an end cap.  I just got rid of a bunch of “dollar stamps” in my last purge so I had to resist these and the page flags weren’t tempting. Not a color scheme I would use. Dodgin’ bullets, people!IMG_2241

So that’s where all the Martha Stewart went? An end cap by Project Life. Looked like it was all on clearance.

IMG_2242

Another new item to my store were these Mambi Makers items, like the ones I saw at CHA. My scrapbooking criminal history contains a long record of buying project kits like these and then never making anything with them. Must. Resist.
IMG_2243

More Instax including the “mini 8” which I hadn’t heard of before. And more Heidi Swapp.IMG_2244

This whole section used to be wood-mounted stamps and Tim Holtz, grungy stuff. I NEVER shop from this section so whatever. MORE Heidi Swapp! I wish they’d consolidate all her stuff into one place, for scrapbook sakes! Jeez.IMG_2245

Oh, you have GOT to be kidding me!! MOOOOORE Heidi Swapp stuff on another end cap. Can we just change the name from “Michaels” to “Heidi’s” and call it a day? Everyone complains that Recollections is taking over Mike’s but I beg to differ.

IMG_2248

This is now one whole side of an aisle of stickers by topic. Rad. It used to have a section of alpha stickers smack in the middle but they’ve been moved to the other side. Having all the embellishment stickers in one place makes me breathe easier. Ahhhh…. Ease and flow, ease and flow. Much better. And, yes, since you’re thinking it anyway, I’ll confirm that all the canned goods in my pantry have the label facing out. :P

IMG_2249

New (to me) tiny washi rolls on the side of an end cap. Washi roll, washi roll, washi roll. Hee hee, that’s fun to say!IMG_2250

Here are the aforementioned alpha stickers. I have a lifetime supply of Thickers but even if I didn’t, I wouldn’t buy them from Michaels. Their buyer has a glitter addiction and I don’t do glitter. If I can help it. Sometimes glitter attacks and you have no choice, am I right?IMG_2251

Wowser, 12×12 albums on an end cap for only $3.99. I just purged a ton of postbound albums from my stash so it would be crazy to buy any more. Wellll, call me CRAZY! (Hangs head in shame …. mumbles “I’ll tell you about it later.”)

IMG_2252

I don’t usually buy loose 12×12 paper at Michaels either but I took a peek. The white Recollections papers were the only ones that looked new to me.

IMG_2254

So that takes care of the 3 scrapbooking aisles. Now for the “islands” (I think they’re called) in the back of the store. Here are all the items from the Recollections line of planners and supplies. IMG_2255

These are way too small for me but I love the varitey of colors and add-ons.

IMG_2256

IMG_2259

IMG_2258

If I had a dime for every time I said this lately, I’d be on a scrapbook cruise and taking you with me!IMG_2257

More washi tubes … the shortage is over FER SHURE!

IMG_2260

IMG_2264

IMG_2263

Another island had all the pastel watercolor-y stuff called Made By Me by Recollections …

IMG_2268

IMG_2267

But the piece de la …. peace della … best flippin’ part were all these Happy Planners and accessories from MAMBI! Yep, I saw all this stuff at CHA and I’m excited it’s finally here to buy. Good timing too because this version is an 18-month planner starting in July – so it’ll carry you through the end of 2017. Yep, I just did math there. Not bad for an English major.

IMG_2261

IMG_2262

IMG_2265

The smaller version of The Happy Planner above is also too small for me and I don’t like the gold discs.

However: This is the 8.5 x 11 version. I think I’m in love. Um, “Journey” AND a heart and teal blue (my favorite color) discs? SOLD! I don’t know if I even need this but SOLD!

IMG_2266

I’ll show you what I walked out of the store with next time.

What was that you asked? Did I PAY first? Um, yeah. I know shoplifting is a problem at Michaels and that they won’t even chase or report you if you take their stuff but sure, I paid. Like I’d miss a chance to use sales and coupons? Yeah, right.

Scrapbook Organization: Are You Tired of Fighting With Your Stuff?

The Backstory

I’ve been scrapbooking since 2001. I was a scrapbooking consultant for several years so I have “product.” And I’m a bargain shopper and a coupon queen so I’ve accumulated a LOT of scrapbooking stuff over the years. While shopping is super fun – I ain’t gonna’ lie – the sheer amount of supplies I have can get a little crazy.

It gets to the point where I’m so busy putting things away or moving this pile over there that not much scrapbooking gets done. Or I sit down to scrapbook an event KNOWING that I bought specific supplies for it but not being able to locate them. Blerg :P

I know this is a problem a lot of us have and when I was trying to think of ideas for what classes I could offer you, this was the first thing that came to mind. Not only do we need to ORGANIZE our supplies but we need to (oh my gosh, is she really going to say it!??!) (YES) pare down our supplies a bit.

I’m one of those scrapbookers who hears about others “purging” their supplies and I just cringe. “But I LOVE my supplies! How am I supposed to get rid of anything?” And that’s where I was stuck for years. I’d put things away, clear my desktop again, maybe implement a new organizational system like this one for my washi tape.

washi tape storage

Then you know what happened, right? Two months, three shopping hauls, and a busy life later, I was right back where I started: trying to find new places to put things away and new ways to organize my supplies so I’ll actually use them and know where everything is. But it got to feeling kind of futile. Sigh.

Keepin’ It Real

This is how my scrapbook space looked as of November 2015. ‘Nother sigh.

IMG_1245

IMG_1246

I looked at this and just felt so . . . TIRED. Almost like a rock bottom, since this IS kind of an addiction. {If being a scrapbooking addict is wrong, I don’t wanna’ be right! ha ha}

The Turning Point

For me, it was reading that book everyone was talking about, “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing“.

marie kondo

Admittedly, author Marie Kondo says some wacky stuff in this book. But the overall message surely spoke to me: Only keep those things that SPARK JOY.

For me, this meant:
– Don’t keep things that you bought because they were on sale.
– Don’t keep things just because someone gave them to you.
– Don’t keep things for projects that you might do “someday” (but know you never really will)
– Don’t keep things because they’re worth money but you don’t have time to sell them

The common thread I see in my reasoning: GUILT. And isn’t that a shame? I’m keeping myself surrounded by too much stuff because I feel GUILTY. Is that bringing me joy? Is that allowing me to spend time doing the one activity I love the most, scrapbooking? Nope.

The Solution

So in November 2015, I decided to not only go through my scrapbook space using the KonMari method (the method described in the book above) but I documented my actions and created an online class from it. With the new year and all, it seems like the perfect time to share this with you.

Here’s a page with all the class information – please do yourself a favor and check it out:

Simplify Your Scrapbook Space: Declutter and Organize So You Can Scrapbook Stress-Free

Since I “KonMari’d” my scrapbook space, everything has been so much better.  I got rid of a lot of things that, as much as I wanted to, I just wasn’t going to use.  They were taking up storage space that became freed up for storing things I WILL use and DO use. I was able to remove things from my work desk that, no matter how “organized” I was before, didn’t have a good place.

How Does It Feel?

I can’t tell you what a relief it was to just LET GO. Let go of old supplies, things that were no longer my taste, projects I’d never do (photo cube anyone?), and all that guilt-inducing STUFF that was weighing me down. Now the supplies I have BRING ME JOY. I look forward to going into my scrapbook space instead of dreading it. I can find the exact supply I’m looking for and the guilt is gone.

I want all of this for you, too <3

If you’re tired of fighting against your scrapbook supplies and just want a clear, peaceful place to create, THIS may be just the thing you need. I hope so because I want to be of service to you and I hope this is something we can have fun doing together :)

Scrapbook Shopping: Tuesday Morning and Michaels Hauls – October 2015

Here’s a look at some things Michaels is carrying these days along with photos of my recent hauls from Michaels and Tuesday Morning :)

MICHAELS

My Michaels had some new album and planner kits. The only one that caught my eye was the kit on the left. I opened it up and, to be honest, wasn’t impressed with the quality. Oh well, made it easy not to spend money.

IMG_1095

I noticed some new washi styles – in the top 2 rows of this pic.

IMG_1096

I got MORE Heidi Swapp stickers. These clear ones are so useable and so cute. I also got the cork “washi” which is rad. I think it’ll be fun to layer with.  All HS was 50% off and I used a 50% off coupon for the cork tape. Score!

IMG_1117

TUESDAY MORNING

I had a better trip this time to Tuesday Morning than I’ve had in a while. While shopping, I was texting with my scrap bestie, asking if she wanted this or that.

And then laying out everything I was going to buy and pretty much bragging about all my finds via texted photo :P I’m not all bad; I bought the Maggie Holmes bows and triangle tack thingees for her <3

IMG_1115

Yes, you’re reading that right: a $50 OttLite for only $20. ‘Nother score!

IMG_1116

Couldn’t resist taking more photos of my haul when I got home. I’m quite proud apparently.

IMG_1122

IMG_1123

Not bad, eh?

Michael’s Scrapbook Haul from a GOOD Mike’s

In MY LAST POST, I talked about my trip to an out-of-town Michaels – a GOOD Michaels – that I had so much fun shopping at. Now, it’s time to show you what I bought there.

Here’s the whole shebang.

IMG_4450

I didn’t show these little MAMBI Sticks in the other post but ain’t they cute? I love these for Project Life and other pocket pages. They’re mostly flat but add a little bit of depth and lots of color. The little banners to their right by American Crafts will probably go in my PL as well. I love putting banners across the corner of a photo that has some white space. There’s a Heidi Swapp “Sunburst” stencil that I’ve wanted forever. {I could only get one and had to put the Hearts stencil back, boo hoo}. There’s the 2 chevron washi tapes from Recollections DIY; I also had pink but put it back. Like with the burlap embellishments in my last post, I’m hoping my Michaels will eventually get this washi and I’ll buy it with a coupon.

IMG_4451

Here is the large MAMBI Sticks pack that I chose from the FIVE I wanted, LOL. I can’t find a name on it, unfortunately :( It has a lot of sayings about life, being positive, gratitude, etc.

IMG_4452

Along with the medium-sized set of MAMBI Sticks in the top photo, far right, I’m going to use these on a project I’m starting. For that, you’ll have to read my next post. Yeah, I’m such a tease!

See ya’ later, gator ;)

Scrapbook paper pads will be $9.99 (reg. $19.99).

And Plastic Scrapbook Storage will be 50% off.

If you wanted to implement my PROJECT LIFE CARDS or WASHI storage ideas, now would be a great time to buy up some of those cute plastic shoeboxes or 6×6 Iris containers!

Scrapbook Deals and Steals: 50% Off Entire Purchase “Recollections” Stickers and Embellishments TODAY only 02-05-14

Michaels loves me so much, they e-mailed me a coupon for being such a great customer! I mean, my purchases alone funded the new Cake Boss wing at my local store.

Oh wait. You mean they send out coupons to EVERY customer who signs up!??!

Well . . . fine. No, really, that’s fine. I felt special and loved and all, and it is almost Valentine’s day in the Season of Love. And now you just ruined it for me but, you know, whatever.

:)

I never used to be a huge fan of Michael’s in-house “Recollections” brand but they’ve really been rocking it lately. That’s why I wanted to let you know about this coupon and it’s for TODAY ONLY.

I was just @ Mike’s yesterday and all their Valentine’s Day line by Recollections was 50% off. I’m pretty sure at least part of the line is a knock-off of a My Minds Eye line – very pretty! I got another pack of those gorgeous enamel dots, some banner stickers, and a twin pack of heart washi tape.

I’ll post a photo here later when the sun has come up. Want to get this posted so you see it ASAP.
ETA 02-05-14: Here ya’ go . . .

IMG_3738

Of course, the coupon won’t work on those goodies but it’s like an added bonus so be sure to check out the Valentine’s section. There was plenty of other cute Recollections stuff to choose from, including a whole new line of decorated clothes pins. I’ll post a pic of those too. I don’t think I’d use them in a scrapbook (bulky) but they’d be cute on my desk to hold receipts, notes, photos, etc.

IMG_3732

IMG_3733

IMG_3730

IMG_3731

I also got a couple storage options to try out because I need a new way to hold my washi collection – more on that later – some more of the new Heidi Swapp line, and used a 40% off coupon for the DCWV stickers {I *needed* that typewriter!}.

IMG_3735

Happy Scrappy Shopping! Let me know what you find :)

Scrapbook Products: “Vintage Charm” by DCWV @ Michaels

Just thought I’d share a new product I saw at Michaels that’s really cute. I’ve been stalking my Mike’s for the NEW PROJECT LIFE stuff but nothing yet. This was on an endcap at the front of the scrapbooking section: “Vintage Charm” by Die Cuts with a View (DCWV).

The 3 card sets on the left are cool. The one with the heart is layered.

IMG_3612

I got a pack of those heart stickers (top row, third from left)

IMG_3613

On the bottom left is a postbound album with a 3-D frame on it – so pretty!

IMG_3614

I used my 40% off coupon on the heart washi!

IMG_3615

The cameras are TOTES ADORBS (I said that just to be annoying – but they are adorable). And the typewriter!

IMG_3616

I’m not usually a DCWV fan but this line I love. What do you think?

PS: I haven’t forgotten about CHA posts. All the photos are edited and I have some of the writing done but work was super busy this week. I’m so sorry for the delay. Look for more CHA posts next week! Have a happy, scrappy weekend :)

My Scrapbook Haul from Michaels

A sports season recently came to an end and, for being team mom, I was lucky enough to receive a beautiful card, a bottle of wine, and a Michaels $25 gift card. However did they know that I would enjoy a Mike’s spending spree!?!?

{Uh, maybe because I was the only obsessive picture taker all season who would drift away in the middle of conversations saying, “‘Scuse me I gotta’ get this shot …”}

So I drank the bottle of wine and went to Michaels.

JUST kidding! Sheesh. Give me a little credit. My Gawd.

.
.
.
I shopped first THEN drank the bottle of wine. Duh.

It was nice to go to Michaels for once when I wasn’t trying to pinch my pennies so hard they screamed for mercy. I felt kind of like the Real Housewife of Scrapbook County, leisurely strolling the aisles in my Jimmy Choos (okay, Reef flip-flops), carrying my Birkin bag (okay, Target $20 purse), with my long blonde straw-like hair extensions flowing behind me (okay, that part is true).

But I really did feel kinda’ reckless, like I could have a little bit of fun – instead of my usual M/O of finding one item to use my 40% coupon for and leaving within 5 minutes.

So here is my Michaels scrapbook haul – and despite being Real-Housewife-Rich, I did get some great deals anyway:

~~~~~~~~
GCD and Sticko alphas, both really cute for kid pages. Both styles were on sale for $1.49/pack.
IMG_1860
I feel compelled to buy 2 of every alpha now because I’m so tired of running out of S, T, and vowels before I’m done with a pack.
~~~~~~~~

Okay, I admit I’m obsessed with these MAMBI pocket page cards. It’s only gotten worse since I wrote THIS POST. Many of my aforementioned “one item with a coupon” Mike’s trips have been to get these packs. But I’m done now. I officially have every single pack that I want. I think. Yeah. I’m pretty sure. Maybe.

NO REALLY. I’M DONE. FER SHURE. LIKE.

IMG_1861

So they retail for $4.99 a pack. The sign said 50% off so I grabbed the remaining 3 packs I wanted to complete my ‘set’ for $7.50 instead of $15 … SCORE! However, when I got to the register and asked to make sure they rang up for $2.50 each, I was informed that what the sign ACTUALLY said was “Buy 1, get 1 50% off.” Uh der. Make that $12.50 total, oops. Oh well, I’m a Real Housewife, what do I care?

I thought about returning one and using a coupon on it later. But then I figured I’ll just keep it and not have to worry about remembering what pack I still need, etc. Done. See? I really mean it. {I think}.

~~~~~~~~~
Thickers chipboard alpha in a cute map print
IMG_1862
I was able to ring these up separately with a 40% off coupon so they were $3.23. Here’s what’s funny. I noticed when I was taking the photo that they are in the totally wrong package! Did you catch that? Weird. Whatevs. That doesn’t make me love them any less.
~~~~~~~~~

To round up the scrappy portion of my haul …

IMG_1863

Bazzill kraft cardstock – On sale for 47 cents a sheet x 10 sheets = $4.70. In retrospect, since I was Real Housewives rich, I should’ve gotten more. I lurve kraft cardstock. I used it a lot for my base pages. It’s like a good pair of jeans – it goes with everything.

MAMBI “I Heart Dad” 3-D sticker for $1.99

Recollections vintage looking black/white washi tape $2.99

Recollections star bling $1.49

Bling charm letter $.99

~~~~~~~~~~
Then from the home dec section, I got a yummy candle and cute vase with fake flowers for my home office/scrap room.
IMG_1859
These blue-y greens are my absolute favorite colors and the bottle/vase is so “me”. Not in a Real Housewife sort of way but in my poor country girl kind of way. The flowers have bling in the center of each one but I may need to thin them out a bit, do you think? The candle is Ocean scented.
Vase $3.99 on sale
Candle $3.99 on sale
Flowers $6.99 minus 40% coupon = $4.19
~~~~~~~~~~

Grand total $48.10
Minus gift card $25.00
Total paid $30.10

I was on a shopping high for quite a while from this trip! And I’ve already volunteered to be Team Mom again next season ;)

What are your latest Michaels finds? Or if you’re brave enough to share, what did you spend on your last scrapbook haul? Really you can tell us! Real Housewives never tell …

HSN Scrapbooking: Lisa Bearnson Returns to TV with Project Life and More

Back in the day, LISA BEARNSON used to host scrapbooking shows on QVC. They were THE THING to watch. Scrappers would call in sick to work or gather and crop during these shows. They were such an event, lol. Well, Lisa left QVC some time ago as did scrapbooking as a whole.

Then HSN picked up the crafts/scrapbooking baton with a variety of hosts. While I’m grateful that at least someone has kept on with the scrapbooking shows, HSN has never held a candle to QVC’s old shows. That’s why I was so very excited to hear that Lisa Bearnson is coming to HSN! Not only that, she’ll be debuting Project Life there. As a Project Lifer myself, that was icing on the scrapbooky cake.

If you don’t want to know ahead of time many of the items she’ll be showing on HSN, don’t look below … SPOILERS!!

But first I’ll share the schedule so you can set your DVR – it’s basically Monday, 03-25-13 from midnight to midnight EST. HERE is the program guide at HSN.com. You can adjust it to show your time zone if you like.

These are the times Lisa says she will appear (all EST):

12:01 AM – Papercrafting with Lisa Bearnson premiere along with Today’s Special (Project Life) presentation

1:00 AM – Today’s Special (Project Life) presentation

8:00 AM – Today’s Special (Project Life) presentation

12:00 PM – Papercrafting with Lisa Bearnson premiere along with Today’s Special (Project Life) presentation

2:00 PM – Today’s Special (Project Life) presentation

5:00 PM – Papercrafting with Lisa Bearnson premiere along with Today’s Special (Project Life) presentation

6:00 PM – Today’s Special (Project Life) presentation

9:00 PM – Papercrafting with Lisa Bearnson premiere along with Today’s Special (Project Life) presentation

10:00 PM – Today’s Special (Project Life) presentation

She’s been posting on her blog about items she’ll be presenting on HSN for the big scrapbooking day. This is just a snapshot; click on her blog link above to see a lot more details. But here are all the products in one place:
On March 25th, 2013 at 12:01 a.m. I will present the Today’s Special–an exclusive Project Life kit that is not offered like this anywhere else. Oh–and wait until you see the price!
There will also be a washi tape item:

A Silhouette Cameo bundle:

And a card kit:

Sticker Bliss Mega Kit:

Project Life Blush and Jade kits:

Favorite File of Rub-Ons:

Across the Board border kit:

Life’s Little Moments chipboard kit:

American Crafts twine and paper trimmer:

I don’t know about you but I’m excited! DVR is set baby! First of all, I love Lisa. I was blessed to spend some time with her on a scrapbook cruise and she was amazing. Loved her and David Venable on QVC all those years (and thought the dust-up about ‘the slap’ was kind of silly, imho). Anyway, just happy to see something new and exciting coming to HSN for once. If I have to see the WRMK punches demo’d one more time I’m going to scream.

Reminder: If you’re PST like me, we actually get the first show at 9pm Sunday night :) I need to catch up on my Project Life. I think I’m going to set it up on the coffee table and have a little Scrap Party for One from 9pm to midnight, LOL.

Will you be watching? Got your eye on any of the items above?
