Back in the day, LISA BEARNSON used to host scrapbooking shows on QVC. They were THE THING to watch. Scrappers would call in sick to work or gather and crop during these shows. They were such an event, lol. Well, Lisa left QVC some time ago as did scrapbooking as a whole.
Then HSN picked up the crafts/scrapbooking baton with a variety of hosts. While I’m grateful that at least someone has kept on with the scrapbooking shows, HSN has never held a candle to QVC’s old shows. That’s why I was so very excited to hear that Lisa Bearnson is coming to HSN! Not only that, she’ll be debuting Project Life there. As a Project Lifer myself, that was icing on the scrapbooky cake.
If you don’t want to know ahead of time many of the items she’ll be showing on HSN, don’t look below … SPOILERS!!

I don’t know about you but I’m excited! DVR is set baby! First of all, I love Lisa. I was blessed to spend some time with her on a scrapbook cruise and she was amazing. Loved her and David Venable on QVC all those years (and thought the dust-up about ‘the slap’ was kind of silly, imho). Anyway, just happy to see something new and exciting coming to HSN for once. If I have to see the WRMK punches demo’d one more time I’m going to scream.
Reminder: If you’re PST like me, we actually get the first show at 9pm Sunday night :) I need to catch up on my Project Life. I think I’m going to set it up on the coffee table and have a little Scrap Party for One from 9pm to midnight, LOL.

There’s a local crop but my mom is here visiting so we’re going to just take over the dining room table and scrap this weekend whenever we’re not busy with other fun stuff and enjoying our Mother’s Day Weekend.
Btw, President Obama STILL hasn’t answered my (many, annoying, begging, pleading, stalkerish, fully outlined, and factually supported) letters asking him to make National Scrapbook Day a Federal Holiday. Yeah, I want the banks and post offices closed, the whole schlemeel.
I’m so baffled as to why he won’t enact this no-brainer of a law. And, NO, I *have NOT* been sniffing my Glossy Accents … (sniff) again. Srsly. (sniff) I haven’t!

If you were wondering about upcoming QVC Scrapbooking shows, I did a search on my satellite guide and got no results. Gah! As I recall, they weren’t going to have any more scrapbooking shows in 2008. If anyone has more info, please let me know :)

Remember how I told you that HSN Scrapbooking is worth watching now? Well, it’s coming up again so try to watch and tell me what you think…September 9 at 6am, 2pm, and 6pm. These times are EST, so please adjust for your time zone.
I recorded two ‘shows’ today of HSN Scrapbooking and was in no hurry to watch them, as lately they’ve been kind of a bust. It’s been anything from sewing machines to Paperazzi, neither of which are on my shopping list. But after everyone settled in bed tonight, I sat down and watched the first hour and was impressed and surprised. They said all the items were new to HSN, although I had seen one of them before (btw, how can they lie like that? isn’t it false advertising of some kind?). But there were actually some rockin’ items. There were a few things by American Crafts including a paper and embellishment kit, and 2 choices of Slick Writers sets (glitter and metallic), but my favorite from AC was a Thickers set. For about $24 including shipping, you get 8 packages of chipboard Thickers, 4 alphas and 4 matching shape stickers. They were in basic colors like black, white, metallic gold and metallic silver. Around here, the Thickers alphas sell for $4 each and the shapes for $5, so the HSN deal is clearly a good one. HSN also offered the Pebbles Inc. Share and Tell system, and tons of Fancy Pants stuff…acrylic shapes and acrylic stamps. I haven’t watched the second hour yet, but I zipped through the preview at the beginning and it looked like many of the same items were re-run, plus some additional things by Fancy Pants. Again, just a pleasant surprise from HSN tonight and I thought you’d want to know, so you can add HSN Scrapbooking back into your Must See TV line-up.
I also watched Big Brother 10 and, wow, I feel so sorry for Ollie (or Ali, as Michelle calls him, LOL). I guess he was kind of silly to trust Dan completely…he should have been working some other angles in case Dan let him down. Then again, I can’t believe Dan swore on his girlfriend, his family, and the Catholic school he coaches at…and then went back on his word. That’s harsh, dude….
Well, I’m all packed for my last crop. Not that many people signed up (due to Labor Day Weekend?), so it’s not good financially because I have to pay a lot to rent the room {I’m going to see if I can sweet talk the manager, Vic, into lowering the price since my attendance is low…wish me luck}. But it will mean more scrapping time for me and I’m really looking forward to working on my School Days albums for the online class I’m taking. The only comment I have so far, without personally seeing the HSN ad on the CK site, is that maybe CK doesn’t control and/or monitor specific ads that flash on their site. For instance, if you allow ads on your free website, blog or message board, my understanding is you can request that they pertain to a certain topic (in this case, crafts or scrapbooking) but you, the site owner, don’t get to approve the ads on a case by case basis. I assume ad placement is done by computers not humans, who wouldn’t know that it would be a big NO NO to put an HSN ad on the CK website…because it might start a rumor or sumthin’…
What do you think…could the rumor be true, and would you be glad or sad?

They have listed some NSD events and resources. They also have NSD logo merchandise…this was my favorite – a dog tee shirt.
Are those the cutest pups ever?!? Are you going to put your pooch in a tee? Yep, me neither. If I approached Dallas with a “doggie tee shirt,” he would give me his withering look of disdain, you know, the same one he gives me when I tell him “Quit laying in the sun so much. Get a job, for Pete’s sake!” or “Hey, I’m tired, feed yourself tonight….and don’t give me the ‘I have no opposable thumb’ excuse, because it’s wearing thin.” So, you see, Dallas and I have established the kind of relationship that does NOT include the wearing of doggie tees just to make mommy proud.
Okay, back to NSD…As befitting a holiday of this magnitude, there are lots of scrappy happenings on TV and online. All of which I PERSONALLY will miss, because I’m holding a scrapbook event IRL. But you all just go on and have fun without me…I’m not bitter…really…

The All Moments Remembered MESSAGE BOARD is hosting an online crop on Saturday 5/3 from 1-9pm PST (4-12am EST). I got these from Jadadog/Tracy’s BLOG, and you can find more peeks on the other DT’s blogs: LINDA, JENN, and DEBBIE. I’ve seen all the peeks and it looks like one super gorgeous kit. And the Design Team does such a fabulous job of showing you ways to use the kits, you just can’t lose.
I can’t believe I’m missing THIS of all the AMR crops, because one of my favoritest-ever designers will be coming by for a chat, AND she’s a guest designer for the May kit. Look what Stacey (AMR owner) wrote on her BLOG:
“Don’t forget National Scrapbook day is May 3rd. We will be having an online crop. Lots of challenges and wonderful prizes to give away. Christine Middlecamp will be joining us to chat and show off what she has designed with our May Kit.”

As for me, I’m hosting another crop but this one is different so it’s been a lot more work. Instead of holding the 2-day crop at a hotel like I usually do, it’s at a large barn/clubhouse that a friend is “loaning” me, LOL. BUT…I have to set up the tables, chairs, tablecloths, extra lighting, etc by myself, in addition to my tables of Memory Works merch. And I provide snacks and drinks, although this place has a full kitchen so that part will be easier than the hotel which just has a sink and counter in the meeting room. Then to add even more…I’m including my first ever Scrapbook Garage Sale, where ladies can bring all their unwanted supplies and sell them at rock bottom prices. Seller happy, shopper happy…Erika happy!! It’s a win-win-win. Anything not sold is going to a great charity, and NOT back in to clutter up scrapbook spaces. It’s Friday and Saturday from 9am-9pm. Luckily, my mom will be here to help…and crop. Wish me luck! And what are YOUR plans for NSD?
I (try to) pride myself on being on the cutting edge of the scrapbooking industry, and usually have heard of something several times before it makes it’s official debut, but this one really snuck up on me! I opened my e-mail box yesterday to see this little gem of a note from HSN, the Home Shopping Network channel.

So the “first generation” Crop-a-dile has been around for a bit. I’ve had one for months and really enjoy using it. Memory Works carries them and, boy howdy, have I sold ‘em to others! Once a scrapper sees the CAD (as CKMB’ers so affectionately call it) in use, they have to have one. Now, the question is, do we “need” a CAD-II?
Here is what I love about my CAD:
~ Punches holes and sets eyelets/snaps like butta’, in 2 sizes.
~ Shhhh….it’s so vewy, vewy kie-wit (quiet) and I can happily create in the middle of night without waking any family members.
~ It comes in cute colors like pink, purple and lime green. There are different configurations it sells with, where you can even get a matching case with tons of eyelets. For instance, Memory Works sells it with the pink tool alone, the pink case alone, or the green tool & case together.
~ The hole punches are cool to use because you can adjust the sliding thingee (that’s a highly technical term) for how far into the paper you want to punch. Then all your holes are uniform looking like, say, one inch in from the edge of the paper.
Only negatives I’ve seen to the CAD:
~ Because of the tool being smaller, there are limitations with how far into an item you can punch. I think it amounts to 1 or 1.5 inches. Personally, it doesn’t bother me because I mostly set eyelets and snaps into flowers, smaller pieces of card or other embellishments. But I know it’s been a concern for others.
~ The thing doesn’t know it’s own strength and, if you’re not careful, you can smoosh (another technical term) your snap or eyelet beyond the point of recognition. Basically, ya just gotta practice with it until you find the amount of force needed to set things.
So, in answer to the “short reach” complaints, WE R MEMORY KEEPERS (manufacturer of the Crop-A-Dile) have provided us with the Crop-A-Dile II Big Bite. Talk about responsive ~ WTG, WRMK! Now the burning question is: Do we need the Big Bite? For now, I think I will hold off. It looks expensive, and crikey, could they find a better color than that gawdawful orange? Actually, WRMK usually has rockin’ color choices in all their items, so I’m sure there will be mo’ better color choices to come.
Here is the discussion on Big Bite so far ON CKMB and ON 2PEAS. What are your thoughts on this new biggie? Will you be purchasing one on HSN tomorrow, or anywhere else?
Edited 1-9-08: Huggy Bear says word on the street is retail will be only $39.99, and some LSS’s are doing pre-sales for $32. Okay, now I’m tempted. I thought that puppy was gonna’ be WAY more than 40 bucks…Wonder how much HSN will have it for???
Edited 1-10-08: Okay, I watched the HSN presentation on the CAD-II Big Bite (like most of you, yeah?). I have to admit, I’m kind of in love with the thing. I didn’t want to be, but that cute little WRMK guy, and the enthusiasm of that little blondie, Suzanne Runyan…jeez, they won me over big time. The CAD-II can punch even further than 6 inches into an item. They punched into sheets of tin (yeah, I’ll be doing that ALL the time), thick chipboard, even a 5-layer dealie of a metal snap, 3 flowers, and a plastic Chinese takeout box. Gotta’ give ‘em props, they knew how to sell me. And the price was around $40 with another $6 or so for shipping. HSN said they were the only ones who had it in stock; the WRMK guy said he doesn’t even have one. So, if you MUST have it now and you don’t mind orange, I say get it from HSN. I will patiently wait for another color, but I WILL have one, oh yes, I will have one…
