Scrapbooking Supplies at TJ Maxx

I’ve been hearing lately about how – surprisingly – discount department store TJ MAXX sometimes has scrapbook supplies in stock. We just got one of these stores in our area so I thought I’d check it out.

Figuring the scrap stuff would be in the home decor section, I headed to the back of the store. Okay, I may have been distracted for a bit by the shoe section … and the yummy-smelling-lotion section. But I soon got back on track ;)

Alas, there were no scrapbook supplies to be found. There were cards, art supplies, picture frames, and photo albums … so I figured I was in the right place … just out of luck. I did some clothes shopping for the kids and went to check out.

And wouldn’t you know: In the cattle chute where you wait for “the next available cashier” … they had scrapbook supplies! There wasn’t a huge selection but I did pick up some “Dear Lizzy” embellishments and some Thickers by AMERICAN CRAFTS. The prices were great so I’ll definitely check out TJ Maxx in the future for scrapbook supplies.

I wanted to let you know so if you think your TJ Maxx doesn’t carry scrapbook supplies … make sure to check the cattle chute :)

Happy Scrappy Mother’s Day!!

It’s Saturday night, about 11:30 pm, and I’m so looking forward to Mother’s Day tomorrow. I haven’t asked for, nor do I expect to receive, any (tangible) gifts. But I’m receiving 3 of my favorite things, that are oh-so-rare:

1. Sleeping in until 10:00 a.m. (oh, the luxury!!)

2. Breakfast in bed served by the sweetest kids this side of the Mississippi

3. Scrapbooking at home with my mama all day

I can’t think of a better way to spend “my day”, can you?

I’m working tonight so I can scrap guilt-free tomorrow :) Mom and I are taking over the dining room table and kickin’ some scrapbook ayshe tomorrow!

As I work tonight, my mind keeps drifting off, thinking about which projects or layouts I should work on. I know I’m going to start with a stack of layouts I did at at scrapbook retreat in February … you know those ones that are about 80% done, they just need some Stickles or ribbon or journaling? Yeah, those. They’ve been staring at me from my desk for almost 3 months now and we’re fitting to throw down with all the mad-doggin’ they’ve been giving me.

Then I can’t decide whether to start some new layouts with all the fun goodies I’ve bought lately (can you say SUMMER FRESH or WHAT’S UP or MIX & MATCH or PB&J???).

Or should I put together my 2 months worth of SUPER SKETCH CLUB layouts? Or one of a zillion other projects I have in the wings?

See now THESE are the types of decisions I like being forced to make!!

Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful, relaxing, blessed, scrappy, delightful Mother’s Day. What are your plans, scrappy or otherwise?

Industry News: Scrapbooks Etc. Magazine to Cease Publication :(

scrapbooks etc.

HERE is a link. Here is the story:

A Fond Farewell
by Michelle Rubin
May 9, 2012 at 10:00 a.m.

Meredith Corporation has made the difficult decision to close Scrapbooks etc. effective with the August 2012 issue. Scrapbooks etc. has been the longtime brand leader within the scrapbooking industry, but due to the longer term business forecast for the franchise and the industry, the corporation has chosen to cease publishing within this marketplace.

The August 2012 issue, with an on-sale date of June 19, will be released on schedule to our 350,000 subscribers and newsstand buyers through the scheduled off-sale date of August 14, 2012. The ScrapbooksEtc.com website will support the print issue throughout this time period as well.

Meredith Corporation continues our strong support of the crafts industry with our Holiday Crafts titles and our newest addition, Make it Yourself, launching in October 2012. And of course we will continue to serve the growing quilting industry with our multiple quilting titles and website, allpeoplequilt.com.
For questions regarding your subscription, please e-mail sbecustserv@cdsfulfillment.com. If you’d like to purchase past issues for use on a mobile device, go to www.zinio.com/sbe.

On a personal note from the editorial staff, we are grateful for your support through the years. We could not have asked for better readers, and we have loved seeing your scrapbook pages and craft projects in our inboxes, on our website, and on our Facebook page. You inspired us in our mission to give you the ideas and information you wanted to preserve your memories and express yourselves creatively, and we hope that we in turn inspired you to create great pages and projects.

We’ll be posting here on the blog for a few more weeks as the August issue hits newsstands. And look for a post celebrating some of our favorite projects through the years.

THANK YOU!

Well, wow.

I can say that I’ve seen this coming for quite a while but that doesn’t make the news any easier to take, does it? It’s just sad :(

I’m sad for them and I’m sad for us. I’m sad that a scrapbooking magazine can no longer make it in today’s market. Remember when there were, what, 5 of them going strong? Man, those were the days.

I wasn’t happy when Scrapbooks Etc. started focusing more on the “Etc.” part of their title by including other papercrafting and craft projects. It didn’t stop me from buying it but I stopped enjoying it as much. But I guess it was an effort to stay alive, huh?

I have heard much criticism of the magazine since they made that change. I wonder if they had stayed focused on just scrapbooking, if the end result would’ve been any different? I guess we’ll never know.

The last issue will be August 2012 (on sale 06-19-12) so keep an eye out for that. For those of us who’ve subscribed, I wonder what will happen to our unfulfilled issues?

HERE is where the Peas are talking about it. What are your thoughts on the end of Scrapbooks Etc. magazine? Is this all because of the bad economy, the surge in social media like Pinterest and blogs, a bad magazine, or what? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Industry News: New Website for American Crafts, Studio Calico, Crate Paper, and Pebbles Inc.

As you know, with this awful economy there has been a lot of consolidation of scrapbook companies. With that comes he relaunch of sites to reflect the new face of these companies. The latest is a new website where you can order scrapbook products directly from American Crafts, Studio Calico, Crate Paper, and Pebbles Inc.

HERE is the announcement and HERE is the new website.

Wow, what a great-looking site! Good job, AC! It’s very organized and easy to use. I love the graphics, fonts, and how it’s arranged. You can shop, check out their blogs, look at a gallery arranged by product line, and learn a bit about each of the companies.

Go check it out and tell me what you think!

Simple Stories “Summer Fresh”, Basic Grey “PB&J”, and Basic Grey “What’s Up?”

Just in time for National Scrapbook Day … ;) My latest order from MEMORY WORKS arrived!!!

I didn’t get to scrap today; too busy doing other stuff … but I did open each and every package and look through it all. My own personal NSD celebration.

It was duh-VOOOOOOOON!

There may or may not have been paper sniffing involved. I can’t really say ;)

Hope you had a wonderful National Scrapbook Day and were able to get your scrap on!

Memory Works: Simple Stories “Summer Fresh” is HERE!

One of the reasons I was MISSING MY BLOG so much, was that while it was down, something momentous and exciting happened.

simple stories summer fresh

The long-awaited new line “SUMMER FRESH” by Simple Stories came out!!

{What? You thought I was gonna’ say that KYLE CHANDLER showed up at my door? Because he did, but this NEW RELEASE is way-hay-hay more exciting that that, silly!}

One super cool thing is that we @ MEMORY WORKS ~ with each Simple Stories line ~ sell a pack of matching textured cardstock by American Crafts. I mean, you ain’t gonna’ get that at Kmart, know what I’m sayin’?

Alright, enough jabberin’ girl. HERE is where you’ll find Simple Stories “Summer Fresh” on my website. You can order it online today, pay with Paypal, and have it shipped straight to you from our Utah home office in 1-2 business days. You can’t beat that with a stick.

Well, I mean, I suppose you could, but what would be the point of that? I swear you people boggle my mind sometimes.

I ordered the fullllll collection 2 days ago and, according to my tracking, the man in the brown truck should be delivering it to me tomorrow (Friday). Would it be bad if I tackled him? Yeah, you’re right … I shouldn’t. “Just take a deep breath, Erika. Let the man walk up the driveway. Patience … patience … count to 20 by 10s if you need to.”

Got any “Summer Fresh” or Simple Stories questions? Just “E” me: scrapbookobsession(at)gmail(dot)com.

Yay, My Blog is Back!!

I don’t think you could tell from your end, but I couldn’t get into my blog for about the last week. Woo Themes, where I get my blog’s theme “Canvas” from, was hacked. So they had to rebuild everything. Blah, blah, I don’t get all that computer talk nonsense so I won’t even ATTEMPT to explain what happened. What it meant for me was that I couldn’t log into my blog at all – couldn’t post, see comments, check stats – NUTHIN’.

I was going a bit kuh-razy, if you must know. Just imagine you’re standing outside an amazing scrapbook store, spying all the goodies through the big windows out front, and you can’t. get. in. For a week.

Yeah, it felt like that.

So I’m back now. I have to go do some updates of some sort. Blah, blah, blogity, blah. I’m so looking forward to it. NOT.

Wish me luck … I’m going in :P
